Hey everyone! George here. Just dropping a note to say I started working on the dust bin module.

I'll be doing the CAD work in Fusion. I've already imported the main assembly and have cleanly redrawn the base volume of the teardown reference (U01.stp) so it's easy to tweak later.

About the dust bin module, let me share an update. Initially I thought - let's convert the vacuum teardown into a 3D printed one (as much as possible).

But after posting on Reddit r/RobotVacuums/ it became clear that most DIY enthusiasts don't want a basic vacuum (like the teardown one). DIY enthusiasts want something highly functional vacuum, generally mid-tier ($500-$600 if purchased on Amazon).

So, I went back to replan the project. Designing a mid-tier highly functional vacuum can be done like this. Step 1 is to source a high-performance mid-tier vacuum fan + sealed airflow assembly. Step 2 - design the dust bin to match that assembly.

Why source the assembly as opposed to 3D printing? I think it is possible to source the vacuum motor alone and 3D print the rest of the assembly (including TPU gaskets). But the resulting performance might turn out to be mediocre - like air drag, dust catching onto non-smooth 3D printed surfaces, noise level.

I'm going to research vacuum/airflow assemblies over the next few days and post findings here.
