I made it work today. my oled laptop needs it but I do not have rounded corners and the eye candy.

I don't really understand the HDR situation - do we still need to use another branch for it, or is it included in the main release?

You need the wl-only branch. It tracks the main branch, just without using SceneFX, which doesn't have a Vulkan renderer yet. But HDR only works with WLR_RENDERER=vulkan.
