The .AppImage I generate with your tool is packaged into the OpenToonz-OTX-linux.tar.gz file on my Releases page. I have to release it with a special folder specifically needed for my application to run independently. I can't really release it separately as it won't run without it unless the user has the official counterpart installed which I do not require.

If I am misunderstanding your request, please let me know and explain in more detail what you are looking for. I'd be happy to support your work however I can.

Please DO NOT put an AppImage into another archive like a .zip or .tar.gz. While it may be tempting to avoid users having to set permission, this breaks desktop integration with the optional appimaged daemon, among other things. Besides, the beauty of the AppImage format is that you never need to unpack anything. Furthermore, packing an AppImage into some form of archive prevents the AppImage from being added to the central catalog of available AppImages at https://github.com/AppImage/AppImageHub.

This is an issue for me as my appimage needs to run with the provided portablestuff folder in the same directory. It is not a stand alone application and the folder needs to be released with it so I do not know how I can resolve this conflict.

Put the portablestuff folder inside the AppImage?

I can't. The application has to be able to read and write to it and I can't access it from within the appimage like I can a macOS .app since it isnt a directory.

It actually is. You can access the files at a path relative to your main executable.

In this case, the files could be copied into a $HOME subdirectory at first launch (if they are not already there).

This is actually exactly what we do in our AppImages.

Instead of AppImage it should be Snapcraft or Flatpak.
