Based on @planemad comment in this issue, could the input for the tool be made generic so that this could be used for various purpose ?
The input could then be either:
- input.csv of a list of locations with lat/lons and an Overpass query.ql to generate OSM features
- input.geojson of OSM features generated from Overpass |
Improving the tool to accept any of the input data in either of these 3 should give the freedom to match and compare any geo-located place with Wikidata irrespective of its presence in OSM. The immediate use cases for the data team are,
- Adding missing translations to various categories of features in OSM such as Parks, Islands, towns, etc.
- Adding translations to place labels in wikidata which has only place name and co-ordinates.
Having this implemented in the wikimama tool would aid in matching any kind of features with coordinates.
