[Feature]: Show/hide line number toggle button

What feature would you like to see?

Add the ability to show or hide line numbers for the current document, primarily in raw mode, but it would also be useful in rendered mode. A new floating button could be added for this purpose that acts as a show/hide line number switch (similar to the light/dark theme switch).

Why is this needed?

While I review the document it is useful to know the absolute line number (including blank lines) to then ask the IA, for example, where to make the correction or modification.

Hi @alxsty, thank you for the request and the mockup image. I've spent some time thinking through this one carefully. The workflow you describe, using line numbers as a reference point when asking an AI to make edits, is a real and reasonable one. That said, I want to be clear about a few things I'm weighing before committing to an implementation:

1. For workflows that involve editing markdown, the source file is typically already open in an editor (VS Code, Sublime Text, Cursor, etc.), which shows line numbers natively in the same place edits are made. MarkView is primarily a viewer, so I want to think more about whether surfacing line numbers here is the most natural fit, or whether it duplicates something editors already provide better.

2. Even if line numbers were shown in rendered mode, they wouldn't map 1:1 to the source file's lines; markdown renders block-by-block, not line-by-line. That risks creating a second, slightly different source of truth from the editor where the actual edits happen, which could be more confusing than helpful when coordinating with an AI.

So rather than commit either way right now, I'd like to keep this open and continue thinking about it. Thanks again for the request.
