MAS does not work for changing Windows 10 editions from ones with the 'N' classification to non-'N' classification

I have been very frustrated trying to get my Windows 10 Professional Workstation N edition to a non-N edition. I found out that the N edition does not have the H.264 codec installed by default and therefore cannot play the majority of videos in a webpage or via a webpage on the computer. These media files WILL play via VLC but not without.

I tried to change the version using your script. It didn't show non'N' options, which I find a bit odd. Please let me know why this is not possible.

Also, trying to get in contact with you is nearly impossible. I use email exclusively and I do not like signing up to something just to ask a question.

The required files for switching to non-N edition are not present in N editions. You will need to use an ISO file and in-place upgrade to a different edition:

Right before running setup.exe enter this command in Command Prompt:
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v EditionID /d ProfessionalWorkstation /f

Hi,
I went to the link you provided in your post and downloaded the ISO for the consumer version (far left). Since I do not have any USB media I downloaded the ISO to my computer, mounted the ISO and installed by clicking setup.exe.

It did not give me any options to install non-'N' versions and I found that in the end it installed Windows 10 Professional N.

Does this mean that I have to install it via a USB flash drive so that it comes up with non-'N' versions of the OS?

you need to apply that registry hack before you start setup, and make sure to proceed through things quickly since the system might automatically revert it. that will allow setup to install a non-N version. Keep in mind this is unsupported by microsoft, the proper solution is a clean install.

Thank you for reminding me. Yes, that worked and now MP4 files play inside web pages. Thank you very much for the help.
