Curious about features

I've been trying to use your software, and I'm super impressed with 2.0.

As someone with a somewhat large Manga collection the importing is a bit rough, but I think you mentioned that. I'm currently using a Suwayomi Server to get all my content, but my biggest gripe is when a source goes down. Your program makes me hopeful that I can move away from that eventually. :)

(I read through some of your stuff, but I may have missed it)

Are there any plans to implement features that:
-Scan imported/managed manga folders and backfill missing episodes from either permanent and/or backup sources.?
-Manage and/or delete Duplicate chapters of a given Manga in the folder?
-The ability to be able to manually trigger the downloading or scanning (not integrity scan)?
-implement some kind of basic auth for the front end?

From a non-developer user.. Thanks for all the work that has gone into this. I look forward to seeing how things develop!

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, most of those features are planned.

Regarding the first feature, things get a bit tricky. The current plan is to notify users when a source is no longer usable by detecting signals such as:

Accumulated errors from the source provider
Long periods without releases
Series status changes (for example, marked as “Dropped”)

At that point, it will be up to the user to add another source to continue the subscription.

The reason auto-switching sources is difficult is because:

There is no universal key shared across all sources for the same series. In practice, the only common identifier is the series name, and that is not reliable since different sources may use different titles or translations.
The replacement source may not exist within your installed sources, and we have no way to know which source contain the same series unless those sources are installed and indexed.
We might create some automagical matching with high percentage accuracy if other of you installed sources carry the series, but it will be not the rule, because of the above nuisances.

Because of that, the plan is to notify users or provide a dedicated filter/view for disconnected series, so they can manually attach a new source.

These are planned features, but they are not currently part of the 2.0 feature list.

This technically already exists, although the UX is not very intuitive yet. Pausing and resuming a series will automatically trigger downloads again. Also, changing the “From Chapter” value will start downloading from that point onward.

@Quickkill0 is working on something along those lines so other users can add series, but that will likely happen after 2.0.

The broader long-term goal for users is to bring OPDS support with user management, while maintaining read status both in third-party services and locally inside the series folder as a .json file. That way, the system remains application-agnostic. And in case Kaizoku explodes or you move to better pastures, you still have the metadata of what your users read in the series folder and your linked services.

It should be not our focus right now, to add any kind of web-reader, since there is plenty of good readers that support OPDS.
