Indian accents on my podcasts #2365

You did the sensible thing and it didn't work for a reason that isn't your fault — those two settings can't affect this. What you're hearing is almost certainly YouTube's automatic dubbing. YouTube now generates spoken translations of some videos and serves the dubbed audio instead of the creator's own voice, and it decides that on its side before the audio ever reaches the app. So it isn't a different accent in the recording, it's a different voice track replacing it. The reason changing country and language didn't help is that those settings control which content SimpMusic asks YouTube for, not which audio track comes back. Looking at what the app actually stores, its settings cover location, app language, translation language and subtitle language — there's no audio-track option among them. So there's currently nothing in SimpMusic you can switch to get the original voice back, which is why restarting and re-checking kept giving you the same result. Your Pixel behaves differently because the official YouTube app does have that control — when a video is dubbed it offers a way to switch back to the original audio, and once you've chosen that it tends to remember your preference. SimpMusic hasn't got that control yet. For now the practical options are to listen to those particular podcasts in the YouTube app or a browser where you can pick the original track, and to ask for it here as a feature request — "allow choosing the original audio track on auto-dubbed videos" is a clear, specific thing to request, and you're unlikely to be the only person affected by it. Nothing you've done has broken anything, for what it's worth. This one genuinely isn't fixable from the settings screen. |
