CAT Problem

Have just installed notimm using the Debian sid package and am having a problem with getting CAT to work. My rig is a Hermes-Lite2+. I have started rigctl and it properly reads the VFO of my rig. I have selected rigctl in the CAT configuration panel using the default IP 127.0.0.1 and port 4532, but the little rig icon is red and clearly not1mm is not connected to the rig as it can neither read nor set VFO.
I assume this should work so where would I start to trouble shoot this? Is there a config file that holds this info which I can review to verify the program is using the paramaeters the panels says it is?

When you said rigctl running, you probably meant rigctld running? Try making sure you can use rigctl -m2 to connect to that rigctld and issue commands like f.

No, being stupid, I used rigctl. I ran rigctld and it all works as it should. Thank you for the gentle correction.
To me it would be nice if the program used rigctl and allowed the user to specify rig model and port as opposed to user having to setup rigctld every time you run program. I know I can create a shell script to automate, but still.

On Linux, the idea is that rigctld is always running and is the only thing talking directly to the radio. That way, you can use not1mm, wsjtx, fldigi, qsstv and whatever else all at the same time without worrying that the rig USB port is already taken.

You can automate it:

That way, rigctld gets started automatically when the rig is connected. (Admittedly, it occasionally needs a slap with systemctl --user restart ic7610 after too many rig power cycles and/or notebook hibernates.)

That reasoning is certainly valid. I tend to forget those issues since I am using piHPSDR with the Hermes and the built in Pi on the sBitx so I don't do CAT via USB which is probably the most common method. Guilty of walking around with blinders.
