Convering .jplace to .st with a taxa file #2

Hi,
I'm writing because I am attempting to generate a .st file with taxonomic information. I have a .jplace generated with pplace and a .txt file to load for taxa. When I run the command using jplace2st, I am receiving this error below.
Unexpected character ' in Newick string, expected ( or name at position 5
The .st file is however generated to the name given under the flag -o, however the taxa information is not included in the .st file. The information looks like this:
abund 1052 0.285714285714286 #FF0000
abund 1054 0.285714285714286 #FF0000
I am following with the example given under example 1 for formatting the .txt file.
