LibreSpotUWP v1.0.2

LibreSpotUWP is a Spotify client designed with UWP in mind, powered by LibreSpot. It supports Spotify Premium-based accounts, and works with Spotfiy Connect.

Release Notes

This is a new release of LibreSpotUWP - A Spotify client designed for the Universal Windows Platform. I will note, this requires a Spotify Premium account to function.

I have done my best to avoid leaving any rough edges (especially compared to the prior beta release) - However I am human! If you come across something, please do send feedback so I can improve it! Otherwise this should be a much more refined experience :-)

In this release, I have added:

  1. New OOBE (Out Of Box Experience) - Makes sign-in very easy and straightforward.
  2. LibreSpot Core enhancement - Massively reduced initial song load times.
  3. Bug fixes - App should be much more reliable, even if an older version was previously installed.

Installation

To install, make sure you install the dependencies provided first in the ZIP archives.

For PCs

  1. Unzip the folder and all the contents.
  2. Open PowerShell
  3. Change to the directory you unzipped using cd path/to/folder etc
  4. Run .\Install.ps1

For Windows 10 Mobile (or CoreOS-based versions of Windows)

You might be able to install the appx simply by opening it - Make sure to do the dependencies first! If that does not work then try this:

  1. Open Windows Settings app.
  2. Enable Device Portal and then open the URL displayed. Register the device using the code on screen if required.
  3. In the deploy page, add the appx as the package to install and all the dependencies in the dependencies section.

LibreSpotUWP v1.0.1 (Initial release, part 2 🎉)

Only known issue is that it can take upto 60s for a song to play for the first time. After that, song loads take much less time to complete - Especially if it has been cached or persisted. I plan to fix this in a future release.

In this part 2 release, I have added the option to sign in with text. Additionally I have changed the default client ID, since I mistakenly used my personal Client ID (which only allowed my account! Whoops 😅).

FAQ

How do I login?

To login, you must do the following:

  1. Download the latest version of LibreSpotUWP Login Helper
  2. Follow the instructions within the release notes.
  3. Once you have completed the steps of the LibreSpotUWP Login Helper, you'll see a QR Code and the option to copy the text.
  4. On your device, open LibreSpotUWP and then press Login. Then press either Scan QR Code or Paste login text to complete the sign in.

After logging in, the app crashes/hangs (v1.0.0-v1.0.1)

This is a known issue to be addressed - Currently if you keep opening the app enough times, it will work eventually (takes 3x attempts on a Lumia 950XL).

If it still does not work then do the following and try again:

  1. Go to Windows Settings, then Apps, then Apps and Features, then LibreSpotUWP, then Advanced options, then Reset

I had the beta installed (v0.1.0-beta), can I upgrade to the latest version?

You must do the following before upgrading:

  1. If the beta is still installed and opens, make sure to log out.
  2. Install the newest release.
  3. Go to Windows Settings, then Apps, then Apps and Features, then LibreSpotUWP, then Advanced options, then Reset

BETA - LibreSpotUWP v0.1.0-beta

Pre-release

NOTE: This release is a BETA. It has many issues and "technically works". This is not a final representation of the app.

This is an initial test release of LibreSpotUWP - A Spotify client designed for the Universal Windows Platform. I will note, this requires a Spotify Premium account to function.

Currently, this app is still in development - However I have made this beta release. This will mean there will be some rough edges, which obviously I want to iron out! Please do send feedback so I can improve it :-)

Known issues in this beta release:

  1. Spotify login is only valid for 1 hour.
  2. After the login expires, the app may become unstable or crash. Following this, the app may crash on startup (this only happens once - After this, it will open up to the Settings page to allow you to sign in).
  3. Sign in process on Windows 10 Mobile requires a PC with the LibreSpotUWP app installed (EdgeHTML is too old unfortunately to support the sign in page, so I have added a QR code login method which uses the QR code generated by the app).
  4. Theme switching is not fully implemented yet (will support Fluent and Sun Valley themes in upcoming release).
  5. I am yet to add app assets (like icons).
  6. There is a reported memory leak - Can be resolved via clearing the app data in Windows Settings.

To install, make sure you install the dependencies provided first in the ZIP archives.

W10M users should use the ARM release (or any ARM32-based platform).
Desktop users should install the x64 release (or any X86-64-based platform).
