PAX Cookbook v1.0.0 — Initial Release

PAX Cookbook is a local-first Windows application that wraps the PAX Purview Audit Log Processor in a friendly, guided desktop experience. Build audit-log Recipes, run them on demand or on a schedule, and review the results — all on your own machine.

Highlights

  • Guided setup wizard — a double-click installer that checks for the PowerShell 7 and Python prerequisites and installs them for you if needed.
  • Guided Recipe builder — assemble PAX Recipes step by step, no scripting required.
  • Dashboard presets — get started fast with ready-made configurations.
  • Previous Day mode — one click to scope a run to the prior day's audit window.
  • Background broker — runs quietly and surfaces results when they're ready.
  • Bake history — every run (a "Bake") is recorded so you can revisit past results.
  • Pantry — manage the reusable inputs your Recipes depend on.
  • Check Readiness — validate your environment before you run.
  • Ships with PAX engine v1.11.6 — Fabric OneLake GUID URLs, dual certificate store search, and improved SharePoint uploads.

Installation

  1. Download PAX_Cookbook_Setup.exe from the Assets below (~69 MB)
  2. Double-click to run — the setup wizard will guide you through installation
  3. The wizard automatically checks for and installs prerequisites (.NET 8, PowerShell 7, Python)
  4. Windows Defender SmartScreen may prompt — click "More info" → "Run anyway" (the exe is not yet code-signed)
  5. Open PAX Cookbook from the Start Menu

PAX Cookbook installs per-user and needs no administrator rights. Only the optional PowerShell 7 install shows a one-time Windows administrator (UAC) approval prompt, which you can decline.
