Scheduled Planetary Computer maintenance on September 15 at 6:30 PM UTC

The volume of requests to the Planetary Computer has grown significantly over the past several years. To support this continued growth, we are updating parts of the Planetary Computer's backend architecture.

This transition is intended to improve reliability and scalability while establishing a stronger foundation for future capabilities. The transition will require the following scheduled service interruption:

Date: Tuesday, September 15 at 6:30 PM UTC
Duration: Up to four hours of scheduled downtime
Impact: Planetary Computer APIs and the website will be unavailable

We have designed the migration to minimize changes to the existing user experience. Once service is restored, we do not expect users to need to make changes to their applications or workflows.

However, if you experience issues following the migration, please open a GitHub issue and note that it began after the September 15 maintenance window. Including timestamps, endpoints, error messages, and reproducible examples will help us differentiate migration-related issues from any pre-existing conditions. Feedback and issue reports shared on GitHub help us better understand user experiences, identify service issues, and help prioritize future improvements to Planetary Computer.

We really appreciate your service! I use it for endangered species habitat modeling, and it is very helpful. Thanks for keeping this online and upgrading it.
