Tablet mode functionality #1044

Summary

Currently, multitasking functionality is lacking in Windows, especially when in portrait orientation. Idealy, PowerToys would fill in this gap in the following ways.

  • PowerToys should have two different Fancy Zones layouts, one for Portrait Mode and one for landscape. Two button should exist for switching between the portrait and landscape option, just above the Templates/Custom button in the Fancy Zones editor. When the Fancy Zones editor is called up, it should automatically open to what orientation the device is currently in.
  • Dragging windows in the Task View should bring up the Fancy Zones drag and drop option that is normally shown through the Shift + click and drag system. This should also work with dragging windows from the Timeline.
  • A Fancy Zones layout editor shortcut should be accessible through Task View or the Start Menu for easy tablet mode access.
  • Fancy Zones editor should be touch friendly. Currently, hitting "Edit Zones" in the PowerToys settings while in Tablet Mode does nothing.

This functionality would greatly increase Tablet Mode productivity on the Surface Pro and other 2-in-1 PCs. Many of these feature requests are asked for throughout the Feedback Hub.
