Description
Environment
Windows build number: Version 10.0.18362.356
PowerToys version: 0.11.0
PowerToy module for which you are reporting the bug (if applicable): FancyZones
Steps to reproduce
- Have RivaTuner Statistics Server installed and running with On-Screen Display turned on (any
"application detection level" > none)
Expected behavior
the FancyZones layout selection window should open along with the layout preview
Actual behavior
FancyZones does not open, the process crashes and produces a Windows event log similar to this:
Faulting application name: FancyZonesEditor.exe, version: 0.11.0.0, time stamp: xxxx
Faulting module name: d3d9.dll, version: 10.0.18362.329, time stamp: xxxx
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000000ac416
Faulting process id: xxxx
Faulting application start time: xxxx
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\PowerToys\modules\FancyZonesEditor.exe
Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3d9.dll
Report Id: xxxx
Occasionally the white overlay will flash very quickly but no windows will open
Workaround
In RTSS, add a custom rule to disable the OSD specifically for FancyZones.exe
or
disable the OSD altogether
Note to PowerToys maintainers:
I created this issue with the intent to document the interaction between the 2 applications for people who are experiencing FancyZones crashes. If this is deemed out of scope and closed I take no issue with that.
