Starting `mariadb` dababase server mariadbd `fail` on Ubuntu 22.04

Repro Steps

1. Install Ubuntu 22.04 from Microsoft Store
2. Run Ubuntu 22.04
3. Run sudo apt update
4. Run sudo apt upgrade
5. Run sudo apt mariadb-server mariadb-client
6. Run sudo service mariadb start <----- here comes the error: [fail]

Additional info:

• netstat.exe /an | grep 3306 return nothing

@kanlukasz netstat.exe is a Windows app, it won't work Linux sockets. Try ss instead. MariaDB does start on Ubuntu 22.04:

In your case the service fails to start. Try running the server from command line, like sudo mysqld --verbose --user root and see what might cause the service not run successfully.
