LIBC error

I trying to run edit 1.0 into a RHEL 8.10 (Ootpa)(4.18.0-553.51.1.el8_10.x86_64), but I got a unpleasant error!

./edit-1.0.0-x86_64-linux-gnu: /usr/lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.32' not found (required by ./edit-1.0.0-x86_64-linux-gnu)
./edit-1.0.0-x86_64-linux-gnu: /usr/lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.33' not found (required by ./edit-1.0.0-x86_64-linux-gnu)

The binary is edit-1.0.0-x86_64-linux-gnu.xz with SHA256=831108afb99485db693b6ff5c86f51f683d3ef0eebf343f0c8017b5aec3676ed.

That's the same issue when I try to run Meilisearch.

@WillianBR Try compiling it with Cargo. It seems that your glibc version is too old. If you want a static version, you can try building it with musl instead of glibc

That's right! I can't upgrade it without a very bureaucratic process.

At this moment we haven't yet set up a full build pipeline for Linux unfortunately. As such I cannot offer an official statically linked binary. I concur with others that building it yourself may the easiest way to work around this. Because of this I'll close this issue for now. I apologize for that.

Note that @ket000 probably has the best intentions, but I do recommend caution clicking any external links (i.e. we don't endorse the above link). Compiling it yourself is obviously always the safest choice.

Maybe using trishume/syntect.

I have a lot of colleagues who doesn't have a clue about Vim. They get scared if they have to open Vim.

I agree that untrusted binaries are risk, but using a sandbox is right approach. Fortunately it is very easy to setup rust environment so that you can compile it your self. Let me know if you encounter any issues.

Finally, hopefully we can add a section for community uploaded binaries for everyone who can not setup the rust build environment
