Looks like the Python extension also got an update but it wasn't applied yet when VS Code updated itself. Manually restarting VS Code to update the extension solved the issue. This should be happening more gracefully though.

I am also getting this, but I am unable to update the extension, so this is completely broken for me:

Version 2023.2.0 for extension ms-python.python has no support for targetPlatform linux-x64

I cannot install the extension on the remote host in the first place. Even if I try installing the .vsix file, I get

[error] read ECONNRESET,read ECONNRESET: Error: read ECONNRESET,read ECONNRESET

Note that this is in a locked down corporate environment with heavily filtered Internet access.

BTW I believe this is the same issue as microsoft/vscode#173215.

@letmaik that was either do to an oversight on our part in setting "engines.vscode" in our package.json (there was an accidental hole in time), a hiccup in the update, or just a dependency issue where VS Code 1.75 had to be installed for VS Code to then download the Python extension that required VS Code 1.75 to be running in order to update (we can't speculatively update extensions before VS Code itself in case the VS Code update fails). Either way, sorry for the confusion.

@etfdev I'm going to assume your issue is in relation to the one you linked to in microsoft/vscode and not related to the issue @letmaik opened.
