[MacOS][Arm] platform.processor() different results integrated terminal vs. system terminal

On my M1 mac, with the exact same interpreter, I get different results for platform.processor() if I use the integrated terminal or the system terminal. This is causing PyTorch Lightning to think MPS isn't available for me...

In VS Code Integrated Terminal:

$ python -c "import platform; print(platform.processor())"
i386

In my system terminal:

$ python -c "import platform; print(platform.processor())"
arm

Steps to reproduce:

1. Run the above code on an ARM Mac with Arm Python.

You probably installed the i386 version of VS Code and macOS is using Rosetta to make it work. Download the Apple Silicon version of VS Code and that should fix things.

I had installed the wrong version of homebrew. If you are also seeing this issue, double check where your homebrew is installed: https://docs.brew.sh/Installation

It should be under /opt/homebrew for Apple Silicon: https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/410998/136643
