VS Code is crashing very often

Issue Type: Bug

After VSCode is open for about 30 minutes or so, no matter am I working with it or not, it crashes. It is especially annoying when I am in the middle of editing.
It is not related to any of additional plugins, when I disable all of them, even the standard ones, it crashes anyway. It is almost unusable now.

I am not absolutely sure but I think it started with first 2021 update (or last one in 2020).

Hope fix will be a quick one.

Also can you check if the crash happens with latest insiders https://code.visualstudio.com/insiders

I installed latest Insiders and result is the same, it crashes after few hours. It doesn't matter am I doing something in Code or not, it crashes anyway.

Should I create crash report with Insiders or standard Code?

You can attach the crash report from either insiders or latest stable 1.56, thanks!

No luck :( . Before I started with logging crash report we restarted our server on which Code is installed (MS updates %$#$%&) an Code wont crash any more.
I do not complain that it doesn't crash but I am sure it will, nothing is solved.

I will wait for next Code crash and come back with crash report.

UPDATE!

I was able to fetch moment when crash happened! Will describe configuration a little bit before anything else.

We are running VS Code from central installation on our Development Windows 2019 server with centralized plugins.
Each developer runs Code in its own Home directory. which is on remote file server and is mapped to users H: drive.

This is important because, as I assumed earlier, the Code crashes when connection to remote Home drive is briefly broken.
We experience same/similar behavior with Eclipse based application running on Home drives (HLC Notes as one top app we all are using).

I just started VS Code with --crash-reporter-directory (the local one) and will wait for next crash. Hope some useful info will be stored.

Any idea and or suggestion how to solve this very annoying and bad issue?

UPDATE #2

It happened again and this time I was in crash report mode :).

Given your remote scenario, I think what is happening is that script compile data is written to disk in temporary file and the file handle is valid while the process lives but when the connection to the drive is lost the temporary file handle becomes invalid triggering the above check.

Can you run with code --disable-features="ParkableStringsToDisk" and see if the crash happens.
