Can't open changes of git commits

Open a git repository with some commits. Open source control. In the commits tab, select any commit and any file. Try to open changes (either by right click -> Open changes, or just by clicking the commit and the file).

Nothing happens after trying to open changes.

Thanks for creating this issue! It looks like you may be using an old version of VS Code, the latest stable release is 1.71.0. Please try upgrading to the latest version and checking whether this issue remains.

For some reason switching to another branch and switching back resolved the issue. I'll also update vscode

I also have this problem, VS Code version is 1.71.0.

The issue is actually still present every time I reopen vscode, the git output in vscode shows this error fatal: ref HEAD is not a symbolic ref

Again if I change to another branch and then change back to the original branch everything works normally

Without extensions VS Code does not have tab called Commits.
