js reference irrelevant file across open editors

Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes

• VS Code Version: 1.79.2
• OS Version: win10

Steps to Reproduce:

references is correct when only one file is open, but when the sercond one is open, things goes wrong.
is there a way to prevent this behavior?

Thanks for creating this issue! It looks like you may be using an old version of VS Code, the latest stable release is 1.79.2. Please try upgrading to the latest version and checking whether this issue remains.

Typescript and therefore VS Code treats files without imports/exports as in global scope.
And by default all open files would be added to same project, unless you provide jsconfig.json.

I'm more wondered why there is no error for duplicate const declaration which should be counted invalid and therefore first ("valid") is edited.

Thank you, jsconfig.json solved my problem.

js references is correct now.

And I find out why there was no error, it's because checkJs is false by default, after setting it to true, the error occurred.

I actually noticed jsconfig.json when reading this vscode doc, but moduleDetection wasn't mentioned there. And an empty jsconfig.json did the opposite of what I want, it make all js in project share global scope, even without open them 🙃

I think this defult behavior is confusing, and caused some bug when I perform rename in my project.
