Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes

• VS Code Version: 1.81.0
• OS Version: Windows 10

Steps to Reproduce:

1. create a new file in the explorer
2. enter a filename extension

When creating a new file in the explorer users always get an error message while typing a new filename extension.

This is a usability problem and could be easily solved:

1. automatically remove a dot at the end of a file or folder without any error message like windows explorer
2. create the error message only when the input field loses focus
