Git - submodule displayed with a file icon in the source control panel

As shown in the image, I checked out to a different branch in the submodule. However, it displays as if it is a file in the repo.

Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes

• VS Code Version: 1.96.4
• OS Version: Windows_NT x64 10.0.26100

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Create a git submodule
2. checkout to a different branch in that submodule

@lighteko, the "M" decoration is in correct, and that is something that we have fixed in VS Code 1.97 that is scheduled to be release later this week. The fact that the submodule folder appears in the "outer" repository is expected since changing the branch in the submodule changes the "HEAD" of the submodule. You can also run git status and see that the output will also list the submodule folder as modified.

Yeah, I know that, but I was wondering shouldn't the icon be a folder icon instead of file.

I tried without all extension, and it still persisted.

In 1.97.1 the diff view is now broken. It cannot find the submodule file.

@cbratschi, the fix is already available in the VS Code Insiders release.
