Copilot not working in vs code under cachyOS #273264

Description

@tomwaitforitmy

I do not know if this is a vs code/copilot issue or a cachyOS issue. Therefore, I will post in two places and keep both up to date. I have copilot in vs code running on a couple of windows machines. So it is not a generic issue.

  • Copilot Chat Extension Version:
  • VS Code Version: 1.105.1, 7d842fb, x64
  • OS Version: cachyOS 24.12
  • Feature (e.g. agent/edit/ask mode): set up
  • Selected model (e.g. GPT 4.1, Claude 3.7 Sonnet): not applicable
  • Logs: I couldn't find any logs so far. ~.copilot\ does not exist.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Install vs code on cachyOS via sudo pacman -S code
  2. Start and try to use copilot
    ">" button doesn't do anything.
    "Set up Copilot" button doesn't do anything.
    Settings are unavailable.

AI and other online sources keep telling me to restart VS code, reinstall the extension and re-authenticate with github. However, there is no extension to install.

And I am authenticated and can push into my repo at github. I even refreshed my auth and rebooted the computer two times. Nothing works. What else can I try?
