Steps to Reproduce:

1. Try to issue any request, get messages like:

Cannot find module '/home/xxx/.vscode-server/extensions/github.copilot-chat-0.38.2/dist/tikTokenizerWorker.js' (at tsx element R0)

2. Ensure vscode is fully updated
3. Close all vscode instances
4. from wsl shell, rm -rf .vscode-server/
5. run up vscode in windows, connect to WSL
6. Check features in Extension info:

Retried a few times, same outcome.

The original behaviour appears to have been caused by the binaries for windows being installed on the linux side. As this was blocking my work, I tried again a couple of hours later - a few cycles of deleting the extension, shutting down WSL and vscode, restarting, letting vscode reinstall stuff in WSL. Whether by luck (eg, a race condition) or maybe some cached resource finally being refreshed (be that local or in the cloud), or some other reason, I finally ended up with the linux binaries installed. I didn't do anything "clever" to make this happen, I just kept trying. I don't know if this state is stable (ie, if it would still have the linux binaries if I reinstall again) - but I'm not going to try as I need this machine for work.

Relevant paths in WSL include:
base bath: ~/.vscode-server/extensions/github.copilot-chat-0.39.0/node_modules/@github/copilot/sdk

• ./prebuilds/ - should contain linux-x64, was win32-x64 when broken
• ./ripgrep/bin/ - ditto

I have the same issue but with a remote linux machine instead of WSL. I also have win32-64x instead of linux-x64 at the mentioned path. But my version is github.copilot-chat-0.39.1

But I was able to have chats with the "local" mode just not with "background" or "Claude". I did not test cloud mode.

I’m experiencing the same issue.

This occurs in a DevContainer environment running on a remote Rocky Linux 8.8 server. The DevContainer itself is based on rockylinux:9.3.

“Local” mode works fine, but when using background + worktree features, I encounter the following error:

There is no issue when running locally on Windows.
