Moving a view into panel does not distribute size evenly

In this case I would expect output and npm scripts to have the same size:

There are 2 separate problems here.

1. The NPM Scripts view is collapsed by default and the containers were using this to determine that it should be collapsed when added. This is fixed by the above commit.
2. The sizing of a view is far removed from the moving of a view so its not trivial to make the sizing right mainly because if we try to manually size the view that's added we must manually size the view that is being shrunk at the same time so the split view doesn't recalculate.

For now, I think fixing 1 helps the experience a lot, but 2 would be very nice to have.

I do not fully understand the problems, but if it helps: editors have a similar problem, when you open 2 side by side and the sizes are not distributed evenly and you drop a third editor in to have 3 side by side, I simply make all editors the same size. In that case the drop feedback does not 100% match the end result, but close enough.

If I see a drop feedback that suggests that size is distributed evenly, I would expect that to happen after I drop.

Dropping a collapsed view is probably a good hint that the user wants the view to be expanded?

Yea so the commit above will expand a collapsed view when dropped which will make things much closer to an even split, though it's not perfect.
