How to exclude words in backticks?

It's a rather common convention in several code bases I deal with, popularized by Markdown I guess, to quote identifiers and other kinds of "code" in comments and doc-strings using backticks. Since backticks are not normally word constituents, dealing with this using jinx-exclude-regexps seems impossible. Is there another way?

One working approach turns out to be through faces: fontify the backticked areas of comments soch they are not in font-lock-comment-face. I guess we'll see if there are significant downsides to this.
