Hi! Thanks for linking here. I've seen this on reddit. Personally I am not too fond of this since it leads to lots of scrolling when changing the candidate. Nevertheless it should be possible to implement this as a customization, maybe as special value of vertico-scroll-margin (and not as a separate extension). I would consider a PR which implements this, but my requirement is that complexity is not increased significantly. Note that vertico-carousel.el is a 200 line file, while vertico.el has only around 750 lines. It is a design criterion that Vertico stays small and simple.
