Single-Node Single-Drive for Production?

I read a single-drive configuration is not recommended for production use. Is that because it is not ideal or because it is objectionable? I have a VM server with a large internal storage pool I can put this on. The single-drive would be provisioned out of that storage pool (which already has drive redundancy). I understand this is not how the product was designed, what I'm trying to tease out is if this will work reliably.

You can do what you want. But in case anything goes wrong you have zero failover. If that is "production quality" for you then I guess that's fine.
