0.15.1 - Emulator Crossplay, bugfixes
MHGU Recomp 0.15.1
- Crossplay with Ryujinx/Ryubing and suyu-ish emulators has been implemented! (#266)
- This is currently still highly experimental. Check the Crossplay section of the readme for more information.
- The game now warns you on startup if your CPU doesn't support AVX2
- Fixed armor preview being in the wrong position in the smithy on 16:10 resolutions (#270)
- Fixed not being able to bind the side mouse buttons (
Mouse4/Mouse5) - Android: fixed crashes on Mali GPU's
- Reminder: players on versions 0.14.2 and below can't see people playing versions 0.14.3 and above online, and vice-versa. Please update to the latest version to ensure the best possible online experience! Newer updates do not have these restrictions, so 0.15.0 and 0.15.1 can play together just fine.
Thanks to the contributors for their fixes and additions!
Installation
Windows/Linux
- Download the release zip/tar.gz for your platform, and extract it anywhere
- Put your
exefsandromfsfolders from your copy of MHGU in thedatasubfolder. This expects you to use game version 1.4.0. You can right-click and extract your ROM with patches applied in Ryujinx if you are coming from there - Run the game to generate the ini, press F1 to change settings
- Saves are stored here by default. If you are coming from Ryujinx, copy the
save_0folder into here:- Windows:
AppData/Roaming/MHGURecomp/save/ - Arch Linux:
~/.local/share/MHGURecomp/save/- If
$XDG_DATA_HOMEis set, they are in$XDG_DATA_HOME/MHGURecomp/save/instead
- If
- Windows:
- Put mods in the
modsfolder if you have any (Forge mods are also supported!). Mods that raise the FPS cap or resolution are not necessary (and won't work anyway) - If you have any cheat codes you'd like to use, put them in a .txt file under
cheats/or in the Cheats submenu in the F1 menu - Optionally, in the options you can enable copying of free downloadable content from the donor save that's provided inside the
bonusfolder. This will give you access to the exclusive event quests, item packs and palicoes. If you want to provide your own donor save instead, you can.
Android (experimental)
Android setup instructions
You need: a 64-bit ARM phone, tablet or Android TV device with Android 10 or newer and a GPU driver with Vulkan 1.1 (FSR needs Vulkan 1.2), plus a controller or a controller overlay app. A recent mid-range or high-end device with 6 GB of RAM or more is recommended. There are no touch controls.
- Download the Android APK below and open it on your device. Android will ask you to allow installing apps from your browser or file manager.
- Put your
exefsandromfsfolders together in one folder on the device, for example inDownload, on an SD card or on a USB drive. - Start MHGU Recomp. It will say the game files were not found, and offer two ways to use them. Pick the folder that holds
exefsandromfs:- Import game files copies them into the app. This takes a few minutes and needs about 13 GB of free space (26 GB while copying). You can delete your copy afterwards.
- Use where they are (Android 11 or newer) reads them from that folder and copies nothing, which is useful for a USB drive or SD card. Android asks you to allow "All files access" for the app, and the drive has to stay connected while you play.
- Connect your controller and start the game. Press
Plus+Minusto open the settings menu.
The first start can take a while, and the screen can stay black for a couple of minutes when the game files are on a USB drive. Shaders are also prepared in the background the first time, so the game may run slower for a few minutes.
Android TV / NVIDIA Shield: the app appears on the home screen, under your apps and games. It runs on a Shield TV Pro 2019, at about 41-45 fps in a hunt. A Shield doesn't have enough internal space for the game files, so use Use where they are with a USB drive set up as portable storage (no formatting needed). The non-Pro 2019 Shield is reported to run 32-bit Android, in which case this version won't run on it. Using the file picker on a TV is still lightly tested; if the app restarts after you pick a folder, turn off Don't keep activities in Developer options.
Copying the files from a PC instead: start the app once so it creates its folder, connect the device with USB and choose File transfer. Open the device's storage, go to Android/data/io.github.morerokk.mhgurecomp/files/, and copy your exefs and romfs folders into data there, so it looks like this:
Android/data/io.github.morerokk.mhgurecomp/files/
data/
exefs/
main
(main.npdm, rtld, sdk, subsdk0)
romfs/
nativeNX/
(the rest of the game's romfs)
If you don't see the files or data folder, restart the device and reconnect it, or create data yourself. On Android 11 and newer, the device's own file manager can't open Android/data, so use a PC.
With adb, you can push them instead: adb push exefs romfs /sdcard/Android/data/io.github.morerokk.mhgurecomp/files/data/
The Android settings tab (the last tab in the settings menu) handles what file managers can't do in Android/data:
- Import save / Export save: copy a save's
systemandsystem_backupfiles in from, or out to, a folder on the device. Importing keeps your current save in asave_0.before-importfolder, and the app closes afterwards. - Save folder: keeps the save in a folder you pick, so syncing software can keep it the same on your devices. It needs "All files access". Your current save isn't moved, so export it there first.
- Game files folder: the same as Use where they are. Press Save and restart the app.
- Import mod (zip) / Import mod (folder): add a mod from anywhere on the device. The app checks its layout and offers to fix it.
- Import game files: replace the game files. This also stops using any Game files folder you set.
Bringing a save over: use Import save. From the PC version, the files are in %APPDATA%\MHGURecomp\save\save_0\ (Linux: ~/.local/share/MHGURecomp/save/save_0/). Use Export save now and then as a backup.
Multiplayer: public internet hubs on Android are shared with other Android players only. To play with friends on PC, everyone enters the same matchmaking key.
Other files: everything else lives in the files folder: mods/, cheats/, your settings in mhgurecomp.ini, and the log in log.txt.
Updating: install the newer APK over the old one; your game files, saves and settings stay. Don't uninstall first: uninstalling deletes the whole files folder, including your saves and any game files stored there. Game files in a folder you chose with Use where they are aren't touched.
