Tomba! (USA) v0.24.3-alpha - TCP server, HLE, HD and Widescreen
Tomba! (USA), SCUS-94236 only. Windows x64 prerelease.
Restores the production TCP Debug Server previously available only in the PR #49 test build. The implementation is now integrated into engine master and Tomba master, so future mainline updates retain it. Enable TCP Debug Server under Mods / Advanced before Launch, then connect to 127.0.0.1:4370. The remembered option starts disabled. Archipelago bulk-memory writes support 1–1024 bytes and reject malformed or out-of-range requests atomically; see docs/ARCHIPELAGO.md in the ZIP.
Includes the qualified enhanced HLE/native execution features and default 4x Internal Resolution (1x–32x available, subject to GPU limits). Fresh profiles also enable adaptive Widescreen / Fit to Window. Explicit saved aspect, mod and resolution choices are preserved.
Verified the exact archive in the opening USA area: default-off and remembered TCP on/off, 128-byte read/write, current-build snapshot save/load, live 16:9/21:9 Fit resizing, saved fixed-aspect and disabled choices, actual 4x OpenGL capture, and normal shutdown. All nine Tomba tests, both new engine unit tests, all six production TCP protocol cases, engine CI and the shared public package verifier passed. Full external Archipelago client/seed gameplay was not run here.
USA payload only. No game disc, retail BIOS, personal saves/settings, CD Speed or Fast Loading packages are included. OpenBIOS is bundled. Keep native memory-card saves when updating; execution snapshots are build-specific.

Tomba! (USA) v0.24.2-alpha - latest master, HLE and HD
Tomba! (USA), SCUS-94236 only. Windows x64 prerelease.
Updated from current Tomba master with psxrecomp master a7b37e07 and recomp-ui master a956157. Uses the qualified enhanced execution profile: HLE terrain geometry (including flat triangles), audited native waits, ordered OpenGL batching, native CPU spans, OpenBIOS read/media/capture services, shared presentation and resident preparation. Fresh selective runtime PGO and a regenerated native overlay cache are included.
Internal Resolution is enabled at 4x for fresh profiles. Select 1x through 32x in Mods, subject to GPU limits. Existing saved choices remain in effect. OpenBIOS is bundled; supply your own supported USA disc. Native memory-card saves are preserved when updating.
No European or Japanese binaries are included. CD Speed, Fast Loading, disc images, retail BIOS files, personal saves/settings and build profiles are excluded.
Validation: all nine existing Tomba checks and both updated launcher-preparation tests passed. The exact ZIP passed the shared public-release verifier and a 120-second muted OpenGL smoke at the default 4x, with three passing current-build warm snapshot replay windows. This is automated smoke coverage, not a whole-game performance claim.

Tomba! v0.24.1-alpha
Tomba! v0.24.1-alpha enables the qualified shared optimization defaults and Internal Resolution at 4x for fresh profiles. Mods offers 1x through 32x, subject to GPU texture and memory limits; existing saved choices, controls and title feature settings are preserved.
The Windows prerelease uses fresh title-specific selective PGO. Independent package/build verification and the owner's visual/play check passed. This is not an additional automated save/load, netplay or performance qualification. Disc images, retail BIOS files, personal saves/settings, QA snapshots and PGO data are excluded. CD Speed and Fast Loading packages are excluded. Preserve native saves when updating; disposable snapshots are build-specific.
The unchanged verified archive was built from title b40ed021d3489da4267f6ad350a5b3406b426cca, psxrecomp 964bdeb3e80d0dd1f5e306490ee3788866cbdd1b and recomp-ui 3f1d6f122a58823614abce14f5b86f4d165a629c. Release source 70f8951f2f97940f4d526c12a1ba0056bb7d8130 subsequently changes only the engine gitlink to merged master 09ba00ed7ad9d5e7d88ca428e2c7dc23822a2ded; it does not relabel or rebuild the archive.

TombaRecomp v0.24.0-alpha - audited native execution
0.24.0-alpha: audited native execution
USA: select audited SDK/scratchpad waits and the native flat textured-triangle terrain batch. The four geometry formats matched the original generated callers on 800 captured batches; opening-level movement and current-build save/load pass. Two usable production comparisons of the combined package observed about 33% less process CPU per frame under background load; this is not a whole-game guarantee. Refresh the USA native cache for ABI 35. Other regions retain their previously published builds; this release's optimization coverage is USA only.
Windows x64 public package. Built from cf6171b with framework ffbd9d1ca4ee698866a2a9d7c58c3cc29a77f111. The final archive was re-opened and verified (imports, exact-byte execution binding, mod catalog, OpenBIOS, source identities and file hashes), then loaded its current-build gameplay fixture and advanced rendered frames with runtime compilation off. Background tests used isolated saves and muted output; the player archive has normal audio and no personal settings/saves.
Earlier timing observations are package-specific and background-load-limited. Final archive smoke is a correctness check, not an additional measured speedup.
Tomba! / Tombi! / Ore! Tomba v0.23.0-alpha — USA, two European builds and Japan
This release adds Ore! Tomba (Japan, SLPS-01144) beside the USA and both European builds, and reorganizes the launcher so game enhancements live in Mods.

New
- Japan build. Native boot and 24 audited native area modules, Seamless Loading (on by default, like USA), Widescreen and Skip FMVs (off by default). The left stick and the D-pad both move Tomba. Geometry Optimization is not ported to the Japanese code yet; the original code runs with the same output.
- Settings are now only PC settings. Window, fullscreen, renderer, VSync, volume, controls, hotkeys and BIOS stay in Settings. Everything that changes the game's picture or sound is a mod you can turn on per game:
- CRT Filter (screen model, scanlines, strength)
- Image Filtering (smoothing, texture filtering, FMV filtering; each starts at "Game default")
- Internal Resolution (Native to 8K, Match display, or Auto, which replaces Dynamic resolution)
- Enhanced Audio (the former High-quality SPU)
- Rewind (buffer and interval)
Graphics presets, the audio sample-rate choice and the duplicate Perspective textures row are gone (PGXP Precision remains a mod).
- Cover gallery. Drop front/back/disc images into
artwork/<serial>/beside the EXE (for exampleartwork/SCUS-94236/); the launcher shows them and falls back to the bundled box art. The European builds also show a Quick Mods card (Widescreen, Seamless Loading) next to the memory cards.
Fixes
- The USA download now includes the starting-area widescreen camera anchor hook. The v0.22 release configuration was missing it.
- The EU2 Rev 1 build no longer stages an empty language-confirmation mod.
- Engine correctness: a closed thread's registers are saved on ChangeThread, and High-quality SPU only treats real CD audio as CD activity.
Thanks to @michaelm-afk for the Japanese port, the European updates and the cover gallery work. His original commits and authorship are preserved.
Validation and scope
- Engine regression sweep: the engine changes from the European/Japanese integration showed no regressions on Ape Escape, Tomba USA and Mega Man X6. Tomba 2 booted, loaded a save and reached gameplay on them.
- Owner playtests: USA with the new Settings page, both European builds including widescreen, and Japan with Widescreen and Seamless Loading on. The new framework mods are verified present in every ZIP; their effects were not played on a release build.
- Japan automated acceptance: fresh New Game, walk/jump, stick movement, 16:9 view and seamless batches.
- All four ZIPs: extracted, checked for audited native modules, the new framework mods and clean contents, then booted from their original discs without development tools.
Full campaign play is not certified for any region. Settings you changed in v0.22 for the moved options (texture filtering, scanlines, internal resolution and so on) now live in the matching mods and start at the game defaults. Save states from v0.22 may not load in this build; Memory Cards are unaffected. Keep a backup of native Memory Cards when changing builds.

PR #49 test - opt-in TCP debug server for Archipelago
Test prerelease for PR #49 and issue #47.
Windows x64, Tomba! (USA), SCUS-94236. Supply your own supported game disc. This does not replace the latest normal release.
The release executable includes an optional TCP debug server for Archipelago and other local tools. It is off by default.
- Extract the ZIP to a new folder and run
TombaRecomp.exe. - Open Mods / Advanced and enable TCP Debug Server, then launch the game.
- Connect your Archipelago client to 127.0.0.1:4370.
The launcher remembers the choice. Disable the mod before the next launch to turn the server off. The existing debug_port setting and --debug-port flag still select the port. write_bulk supports 1–1024 bytes per request, including the bridge's 128-byte chunks, without maintaining a patched debug build. See docs/ARCHIPELAGO.md in the ZIP.
Built from TombaRecomp commit 8fd5ee6c67a7d10846e91a621dc7862b98ebf1db, with framework commit 04ce29dc5d6cc1ac343b477f0ae417157bae6143. Development tracing remains disabled. The package includes OpenBIOS and 176 audited native overlay pairs. CD Speed and host-paced Fast Loading packages are absent.
Validation: six title/package checks passed; final archive checked for integrity, imports, private data, mod defaults and native-cache hashes. Fresh-extraction tests cover real game boot, server default-off and persisted on/off, bulk RAM read/write and invalid-input rejection. Full Archipelago gameplay awaits testing with the request author's client.
Please report results in issue #47, especially connection, item/event updates and event-text latency.
Tomba! / Tombi! v0.22.0-alpha — USA + two European builds

Features
- Widescreen has the same name in all three builds. Enable it in Mods and choose Fit to Window, which follows live resizing from 4:3 through 34:9, or a fixed 16:9, 21:9 or 32:9 view. It starts off.
- Seamless Loading and native geometry processing remain available. The new SCES-01331 build uses verified bindings for all five languages, including the distinct Spanish layout.
- Audited native opening/support caches are included: 176 modules for USA; 66 each for SCES-01330 and SCES-01331. Later unsupported code retains fallback.
- The European packages verify their exact original disc revision. The shared launcher work also fixes config selection during regional handoff and prevents New Memory Card from overwriting existing progress.
- Long disc filenames containing spaces are remembered correctly across European launcher restarts.
- CD Speed and host-paced Fast Loading are excluded. EU2 FMV Skip remains unavailable.
Thanks to @michaelm-afk for contributing the European integration and the second European variant. His original source commits and authorship are preserved.
Validation and scope
The integrated runtime passed sampled USA/EU1 opening movement and Fit checks, plus EU2 English/Spanish selection, walk/jump, geometry HLE, seamless loading, native execution and six live Fit sizes. English fixed 21:9 and Widescreen off also passed. Twenty combined-launcher routing/Play checks passed, including both handoff directions, long-path cold restarts for both European groups, and preservation of synthetic settings/cards. This is a sample, not a five-language runtime matrix.
All three release-mode builds and ZIPs were checked for original-byte provenance, stripped native module hashes, imports, clean contents and consistent mod defaults. Actual relocated packages passed boot and Play verification without host development tools. Automated audio output was muted; fresh player builds retain normal audio.
Full campaign/all-area mechanics, every physical controller/audio combination, and a native in-game save/restart/load roundtrip are not certified. Keep a backup of native Memory Cards when changing builds. The older non-Rev-1 SCES-01331 RC2 disc is not the EU2 download's supported input.
Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.txt and the individual .zip.sha256 files.
Tomba! (USA) / Tombi! (Europe) v0.21.0-alpha
v0.21.0-alpha — Tomba! (USA) and Tombi! (Europe)
Choose the Windows x64 ZIP for your disc:
| Download | Required game |
| --- | --- |
| TombaRecomp-v0.21.0-alpha-USA-windows-x64.zip | Tomba! (USA), SCUS-94236 |
| TombiRecomp-v0.21.0-alpha-Europe-windows-x64.zip | Tombi! (Europe) (En,Fr,De,It,Nl) (Rev 1), SCES-01330 |
The European build supports English, French, German, Italian and Dutch at
the original PAL speed. It requires the exact Rev 1 data track with SHA-1
2505d958b4439d04844cadd3f968fc7432a48e00. SCES-01331
(En,Es,Pt,Sv,Da) and other SCES-01330 revisions are unsupported.
Both packages include OpenBIOS and an overlay fallback toolchain; supply
your own disc. Keep USA and Europe installations and Memory Cards separate.
-
Add EU adaptive Widescreen with Fit to Window and fixed aspect choices,
using checked PAL language/overlay bindings for the shared renderer policies.
-
Name the option Widescreen in both US and EU catalogs. Existing selections
retain their stable IDs; the feature remains optional and disabled initially.
-
Rebuild the audited EU native overlays with PAL-aware culling signatures. Keep native
PAL simulation speed and the existing US rendering implementation.
-
Use consistent mod names: Seamless Loading, Widescreen, Skip FMVs, Hybrid
Controller, HD Texture Packs and PGXP Precision. EU Geometry HLE is now
called Geometry Optimization. Existing package IDs and selections are retained.
-
Keep Seamless Loading enabled by default and Widescreen optional with Fit
to Window selected initially. CD Speed, host-paced Fast Loading, retired
frame blending and developer-only mods are excluded from the packages.
-
Keep the life counter and AP display at the viewport edges when the opening
area's widescreen camera shifts.
Sampled EU English/German and US gameplay passed walk/jump, native overlay
execution and adaptive window/aspect checks. EU fixed 21:9 and disabled
Widescreen also passed; 2,400 EU geometry batches matched the original code.
The owner additionally playtested the integrated EU build and reported it
plays well. This remains an alpha with sampled validation: campaign-wide
Widescreen content, every EU language/area combination and an integrated-build
Memory Card roundtrip have not been exhaustively tested. Native in-game saves
remain supported; execution snapshots are build-specific.
The USA package includes native code for its 25 configured area/support images.
The Europe package includes 66 audited native modules from the opening/support
inventory; later code can use the runtime fallback. Expanding EU AOT to the
full configured inventory encountered unsupported generated instructions and
was rejected by the safety audit. No failed modules are included.
Windows x64 packages only in this release. Keep the complete companion folders beside the executable. Each ZIP has a SHA-256 sidecar.
Thanks
Special thanks to michaelm-afk for authoring the European Tombi! RC4 implementation and developer handoff, including the EU language profiles, Seamless Loading, native geometry support and shared runtime fixes.
Tomba! Recompiled v0.20.2-alpha
Tentative fix for horizontal tearing in focused fullscreen/borderless windows.
Please retest the same display and fullscreen settings used with v0.20.1.
- Preserve synchronized OpenGL swaps on faster displays while the wall-clock
pacer keeps the original game speed. Previously a display refresh different
from the game cadence disabled VSync even with frame blending turned off. - Retire Tomba's Temporal Frame Blending package. It is removed from release
catalogs, and its old activation IDs are inert so saved selections and older
installed manifests cannot enable it again. This was image blending rather
than true geometry interpolation. - Preserve explicit VSync-off, existing interpolation scheduling in other
titles, netplay pacing, and driver-recovery fallbacks. - Keep the v0.20.1 adaptive widescreen camera fix and other visual mods.
Muted hidden-window Windows A/B checks reproduce swap interval 0 before and 1
after at a simulated 144 Hz refresh, with stock gameplay remaining near 59.94
frames/s. An old enabled blending manifest also stays on stock frames. These
checks establish runtime behavior; physical focused-fullscreen scanout tearing
still needs confirmation on the reporter's display.
Memory cards and settings carry over. CD Speed and host-paced Fast Loading
remain absent from both release packages.
Tomba! Recompiled v0.20.1-alpha
Tomba! Recompiled v0.20.1-alpha
Fixes the exposed left boundary in the starting area when Custom Renderer
widescreen is enabled. The camera anchors the expanded view to the original
left edge, revealing more of the area to the right as the window widens.
- Fit to Window and the fixed widescreen choices use the same anchor.
- Returning to 4:3 restores the native view immediately.
- The rendered view shifts uniformly, including slower parallax backdrops.
- The anchor remains in place while paused and refreshes after loading a state.
- Fit to Window now tops out at 34:9. Wider windows retain clean side bars;
fixed 32:9 remains available. This avoids projection gaps seen above that range. - Native camera following is unchanged. The rule applies only to the starting
area; centered interiors such as the 100 Year Old Man's hut stay unchanged. - Retires the legacy host-paced Fast Loading package from release bundles.
Custom Renderer retains its existing default. Memory cards and settings carry
over. This is a focused starting-area correction, not an all-area camera audit.
Validated on Windows and Linux with focused renderer/plugin tests, hidden TCP resize and pause captures, and final archive audits. The existing extended-session save-state investigation remains open.
