This project demonstrates how to securely host a private chat model using text-generation-inference and chat-ui with self-signed SSL certificate via nginx.

Prerequisites

  • Docker
  • Docker Compose
  • OpenSSL

Generate Self-Signed SSL Certificate

openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout nginx-selfsigned.key -out nginx-selfsigned.crt

clone chat ui

git clone https://github.com/huggingface/chat-ui.git

Add dependency for chat-ui Dockerfile

RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y libvips-dev

Change the base path in the svelte.config.js file in chat-ui

import adapter from "@sveltejs/adapter-node";
import { vitePreprocess } from "@sveltejs/kit/vite";
import dotenv from "dotenv";

dotenv.config({ path: "./.env.local" });
dotenv.config({ path: "./.env" });

process.env.PUBLIC_VERSION = process.env.npm_package_version;

/** @type {import('@sveltejs/kit').Config} */
const config = {
	// Consult https://kit.svelte.dev/docs/integrations#preprocessors
	// for more information about preprocessors
	preprocess: vitePreprocess(),

	kit: {
		adapter: adapter(),

		paths: {
			base: process.env.APP_BASE || "/chat",
		},
		csrf: {
			// handled in hooks.server.ts, because we can have multiple valid origins
			checkOrigin: false,
		},
	},
};

export default config;

Add the .env.local file in the chat-ui
