v0.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 10 Oct 19:14

What's new in v0.5.0

Interface

  • Every node body follows one layout: parameter names sit inside the control, sliders and button rows span the full body width, values carry their units (Hz, ms, dB), and each node has one status line in the same style
  • Empty nodes say what they need: Image, Video, Video In, Syphon, NDI, Slideshow and sequencers show a centred hint or caption instead of a blank preview
  • Camera, light and particle previews draw a gizmo; scopes, curve editors, colour ramp handles and delay echoes stay inside their frames
  • Analyse nodes (Hand Track, Image Analyze, Audio Analyze, Geometry Table) show slider-style output meters with live values in the body
  • Axis controls are a segmented X/Y/Z switch; short choices select with one click
  • Dropdowns, the modulation menu and every popup stay the same size on screen at any canvas zoom, with a capped width and shorter rows
  • Zoomed far out, nodes collapse their parameters to keep the canvas readable; pins and bindings stay where they are
  • A compact top bar: File, Edit and Menu share one compact group, the logo opens About, transport and Start Audio sit either side of BPM, and an available update shows as an icon. Settings moves to a gear on the right rail
  • The cable delete button sits at the middle of the cable, scales with zoom, is undoable, and has a short grace period so it does not vanish as you reach for it
  • Settings, the Field and Formula editors, and the Sketch editors share one window style; dialogs are tighter
  • Colour swatches look the same everywhere (Settings, the theme preset strip, markers)
  • Light theme contrast fixes, one tooltip delay and width, and a Reduce motion setting
  • Add an Undo History panel (Shift+U) with labelled steps and click to jump
  • Add Cmd/Ctrl+F find over the canvas (title, type, comment text, parameter names), with matches ringed on the canvas and minimap
  • Add 15 starter templates under File > New from template
  • Copy and paste nodes between patches as text, in one undo step
  • Errors and warnings show on the node with a relink action; patch load and save, audio device and autosave problems use one notice style; Help gains Copy system info and Reveal logs
  • Add a Cook times overlay (Menu > Cook times, off by default) and a Settings switch for the launch update check; the canvas grid is now off by default
  • Add a two-step first-run text and an About build line with links
  • The macOS DMG has a background image and a laid-out Finder window

New nodes and improvements

  • Add Sketch (Sources): write a JavaScript draw(t) that paints a canvas, with 17 presets, an editor window and SVG import (drop or paste an SVG; svgDraw, svgSet, svgText, svgBox)
  • Add Sketch 3D (3D): a JavaScript script builds a mesh (box, sphere, cylinder, cone, torus, plane, tube, beginShape) with 6 presets
  • Add Field Notes (Notes): a note node whose body is a Field script, with a note-out pin and presets
  • Add MIDI Out (Utility): send notes and CC to a hardware or virtual port on macOS, Windows and Linux, with a Panic button; hanging notes are released on delete, stop and device change
  • Add Spatial Mixer (Utility): a binaural 3D mixer for headphones. Each input has azimuth, elevation, distance and width, with a measured HRTF, room, bass mono, limiter and LUFS meter, and 24-bit export; head tracking through supported headphones on macOS
  • Add Hand Track, Face Track and Pose Track: camera or image to modulators (landmarks, gestures), with a live landmark overlay and mirror, smoothing and hold. They need the Tracking pack from Settings > Extensions
  • Add Delaunay Mesh and Voronoi Cells (3D), Curve Ops (resample, simplify, smooth, offset) and a quadric Decimate op
  • Add Dither (Compositing): Bayer 2/4/8 and noise patterns with levels and mix
  • Add gradient Perlin and Simplex (single and fBm) to Noise
  • Color Ramp interpolates in Oklab and OKLCh; Palette swatches are gamut-mapped by chroma reduction
  • Smooth has Per frame, Time and Spring modes; new nodes default to Per frame
  • Add Game of Life and Smooth Life to the Field Pixel presets

Fixes

  • Fix Sketch scripts crashing the app when drawing at top level, and block SVGs from reading local files
  • Fix a Smooth spring turning permanently NaN after a frame hitch
  • Fix Spatial Mixer losing cables on load when a patch was saved with an empty input slot
  • Fix quitting during an extension download hanging, and tracking nodes keeping a stale pose after the input is unplugged
  • Fix Linux MIDI Out leaving notes held when a node is closed, and Windows loading the tracking runtime from a non-ASCII path
  • Fix Reduce motion and Cook times not being remembered between launches

Changes to know about

  • Palette colours that fall outside the display range are now reduced in chroma instead of clipped, so some palettes look slightly different
  • beat and noteNum are now reserved names in Field programs; a program that used either as its own variable name must rename it
  • Ocean and Audio Ribbon orientation changed; re-check patches that use them
  • Spatial Mixer head tracking works on macOS only

v0.4.7

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 07 Oct 16:43

What's new in v0.4.7

  • Add NDI In and NDI Out (Utility) to send and receive video over the network; the NDI runtime is not bundled and the node says so when it is missing. NDI® is a registered trademark of Vizrt NDI AB.
  • Add MIDI File (Synths): plays a .mid on the transport with transpose, loop, speed and a piano-roll preview
  • Add MPE input to MIDI Notes, plus Note Pressure and Note Slide controllers; pitch bend and channel aftertouch are now MIDI-learnable
  • Add Key-Snap (Effects): polyphonic scale snap with glide
  • Add Spectrum Slide (Effects): a two-input spectral morph
  • Add Shape Resonator (Synths): rings the vibration modes of a geometry input
  • Drum Sequencer: 32 steps, a 141-groove library with A/B/C slots, per-lane accent pitch and a bundled kit (groove table from Ricardo Palmieri's fork, PR #24)
  • Looper: the loop saves with the patch, REC snaps to the grid, and Undo steps back one layer at a time
  • Group 3D carries more than four objects into Render 3D; Material gains a texture-alpha switch; Shape outputs straight alpha
  • Output window has a transparent framebuffer, so node alpha shows with no checkerboard (#26)
  • Add full keyboard-only navigation of the canvas and node parameters
  • Add a Language setting (beta): English, Español, Deutsch, 中文, 日本語, Русский; node and parameter names stay in English
  • Add an interface font choice (Inter or Atkinson Hyperlegible), 4.5:1 text contrast in every theme, and Cmd/Ctrl +/- interface scaling
  • Dropdowns over 12 items get a search box, and node search treats hyphen and underscore as a space
  • Fix File > New leaving the old sound playing, and a start-up race on the audio thread
  • Fix plugin-node races and two stack-lifetime bugs in Molder and Audio Plugin
  • Fix Windows timeline render (.mov, Desktop folder, non-ASCII paths) and Windows/Linux resource paths; the Windows package now ships Resources/
  • Add --frame --repeat N for headless multi-pass renders; CI gains ASan/UBSan and clang-tidy jobs

v0.4.6

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 01 Oct 15:11

What's new in v0.4.6

  • Add a headless engine: --render writes a movie, --frame writes stills, with status JSON and exit codes for scripts (Windows and Linux too; Linux needs xvfb-run)
  • Add --frames-dir, --node and --codec prores4444 (macOS) for frame sequences, tapping any node, and alpha movies
  • Add --audio-summary, --stems, --notes and --note-map for measuring and driving a patch's audio
  • Add --contact-sheet, --explain, --describe and a strict --validate to inspect a patch before rendering
  • Add --set <node>.<param>=<value> for per-shot parameter overrides
  • Running app: live reload when the patch file changes, live validator warnings on nodes, an RPC, and infinite open <patch> on Windows and Linux
  • Add a patch-authoring skill and a Headless User Guide (PDF)
  • Add Looper (Synths): record a self-ending take, then loop, dub and clear, with latency compensation
  • Add MPC (Synths): a 16-pad sample player on notes 36 to 51 with One shot, Gate and Loop modes
  • Add Sampler fade in/out, MIDI learn on any parameter (right-click), a Metronome click in the top bar, an audio round-trip latency readout, and Windows low-latency output
  • Fit gains X/Y offset; video loop wrap works when the duration is unknown; Macro Trigger fires Looper buttons and MPC pads
  • Fix interface scaling on high-DPI monitors (Windows and Linux); UI Scale no longer needs a restart
  • Fix Render 3D translucency, Join colour handling, and several geometry nodes dropping curves or point size
  • Fix the device mix counting a signal twice when it goes to both Audio Out and an Output
  • Fix saving in the Linux AppImage (#25), the macOS recorder finishing late, and patch files with a BOM or Windows line endings
  • Website v2, refreshed Node Reference Manual, and a Field Language "What's new since v1" addendum

v0.4.5

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 26 Sep 03:35

What's new in v0.4.5

  • Add an Audio Meter node (Utility): stereo L/R bars on a shared -60 to +3 dBFS scale with RMS inside peak, a peak-hold line, and a per-channel max-peak readout that turns red at 0 dBFS. Audio passes through unchanged, so it can hang off any cable as a tap; click to clear holds and clip. Bars drop to zero within 100 ms of the audio stopping.
  • Fix VST3 plugins with sidechain inputs or aux outputs (most compressors, Kontakt) rendering from their left channel only: every bus is now negotiated, main buses get stereo, and the note input bus is activated so strict plugins receive notes. macOS, Windows and Linux.
  • Fix VST3 scanning silently dropping every plugin after a slow one: the scan timeout is now per plugin instead of one deadline for the whole batch, and a crash or hang is blamed on the plugin that caused it rather than the next one in the list. macOS, Windows and Linux.
  • Fix Shift-drag gesture loops stepping only every 30 frames when their node is off screen (including renders and recordings taken while zoomed in), and freezing on a node with its eye closed. Performance-panel writes to off-screen or collapsed extra targets are no longer lost.
  • Fix the Windows build failing to link (DXGI), which could leave a release without Windows binaries.

v0.4.4

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 25 Sep 16:34

What's new in v0.4.4

  • Add Predictive Quantize (Prediction): a groove quantizer that learns your timing as you play
  • Add Predictive Velocity (Prediction): remaps notes onto your own loud/soft shape
  • Add Predictive Rhythm (Prediction): learns a repeating pattern anchored on a root note
  • Add Predictive Coloring (Prediction): grades incoming frames toward looks you have taught it
  • Predictive nodes show a confidence badge; duplicating a Learn-based node now starts the copy fresh
  • Drift (Predictive LFO) gains depth; Moves / Predictive Macro keep their history across restarts
  • Dropping an audio file on empty canvas asks which node to load it into
  • Right-click a modulated knob > View in Modulation Matrix; the xrun indicator now counts real dropouts
  • Projectors hold a steady 60 fps during a live set (missed frames 12% to 0%)
  • The canvas holds 60 fps while panning big patches (frame time down 79-89% on 300-400 node patches)
  • Lower audio CPU on heavy patches: faster Reverb, worst case 53-61% down to 40-45%
  • Faster video playback on macOS (four 4K clips in real time), two-pass blurs and glow (about 4x less GPU time), and a roughly 6x cheaper Ocean
  • Fix stuck notes when rewiring note cables during playback, and a Drum Sequencer crash when swapping a lane's sample
  • Fix MIDI bindings lost on relaunch (macOS) and a silent start when the saved output device is gone
  • Modulation no longer creates undo entries or marks the patch dirty
  • Exported movies get exact frames from video clips (0 dropped frames, sub-millisecond drift)
  • Fix an HDRI background seam; Windows Syphon/Spout Out no longer claims a receiver is connected; remove the quantise option from Note Capturer

v0.4.3

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 21 Sep 01:30

What's new in v0.4.3

  • Add auto-instance numbering (e.g. "#2") to the Modulation Matrix and canvas node headers when multiple nodes share the same title
  • Remove the comb band types from the EQ node
  • Give the Comb filter node's resonance a mapping that produces an actually audible comb
  • Fix the cutoff knob being greyed out on the comb filter types
  • Add a loop crossfade to the Sampler so the loop wrap seam stops clicking
  • Calibrate the Metallic strike to its measured peak so level stops depending on pitch, material and decay
  • Normalise the Metallic modal bank so a strike peaks at its velocity
  • Analog: make spread a real stereo width and detune an honest total width
  • Fix the Analog sub oscillator emitting DC instead of a sub-octave tone

v0.4.25

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 20 Sep 17:48

What's new in v0.4.25

Features

  • CV Recorder (Modulators): patch in any modulator, hit Rec, then hit it again to stop — the take loops back automatically. speed sets the playback rate (changes glide smoothly), low/high set the output range, and takes are timed in beats and saved with the patch.
  • Velocity to CV (Modulators): turns note velocity into a 0..1 modulator, with an adjustable velocity range (low/high).
  • Note nodes no longer need Start Audio. Random Note, the sequencers, Note to CV and Velocity to CV keep running and driving modulation with the audio engine off (synths still need it to make sound), and they no longer need an Audio Out in the patch.
  • Note to CV, Velocity to CV and CV Recorder look and edit like the other modulators, with the yellow live graph and a parameter panel.

Fixes

  • Fixed Predictive Modulator bindings showing amber like a regular modulator; they now read green like the rest of the Prediction category (knob, cable, Modulation Matrix and preview).
  • Predictive LFO and Predictive Macro can only drive parameters — cabling them into another node is refused everywhere, and the refused drop now says why.
  • Modulator value meters use a fixed 0..1 axis, so a flat or slow signal no longer looks like it is jumping around.

v0.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 20 Sep 13:02

What's new in v0.4.2

  • Add a Prediction category that learns how you move: Predictive LFO, Predictive Modulator, Predictive Notes and Predictive Macro; Shift-grab takes a control back instantly
  • Add per-clip modulation bypass on the timeline, and Make Unique for clips that share a source
  • Modulation Matrix shows category dots and live sparklines
  • Add CV Recorder and Velocity to CV (Modulators); note nodes no longer need Start Audio
  • Analog synth gets a tuning header matching Oscillator and Wavetable, and a Comb filter type
  • Better Random Note and Chorder algorithms; Chorder's rate uses the standard musical divisions
  • Fix Transform and other geometry operators dropping point clouds and curves
  • Fix timeline clip trim leaving the source offset out of sync, and clip inspector fields not typing in their own units
  • Fix 3D text glyph holes self-intersecting and Spout receive showing black on GPUs without interop
  • Fix MIDI CC from 14-bit controllers (e.g. Pioneer DDJ-FLX4) jumping erratically
  • Fix double-click-to-type on sliders and knobs snapping to a rounded value or stealing keystrokes
  • Fix Video In crashing on Windows at a fixed resolution, and a Linux build error that broke the AppImage
  • Predictive Modulator bindings now read green; Predictive LFO and Macro can only drive parameters, and a refused cable says why

v0.4.1

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 18 Sep 14:28

What's new in v0.4.1

Features

  • Analog synth — a new virtual-analog polyphonic synth node with per-oscillator tune (fine/semi/octave), FM depth, more waveforms, and multiple filter modes including a new ZDF ladder filter. Pulse width now shapes every waveform, and the filter visualizer is replaced by an interactive ADSR curve panel.
  • New timeline tools — a tool selector for Select, Trim, Range Selection, Blade, Zoom, Hand, and Pencil, each with its own shortcut, tooltip, and icon.
  • Curve shaping for modulation — drag to shape the response of any wired modulator, expression, or gesture recording, with presets and full undo/save support.
  • Depth Projection node — unprojects a depth map into a point cloud or mesh (perspective, planar, radial, or cylindrical).
  • Render 3D multi-pass output — color, depth, normals, and position passes.
  • Reverb rebuilt for hall-scale lushness — 16 delay lines (was 8), wider delay times, 4-stage stereo diffusion, and always-on delay modulation.
  • Phaser resonant feedback and a Flanger whose feedback now darkens naturally.
  • Three new Field Pixel presets: spiral illusion, bouncing boxes, and organic liquid.
  • Viewport panel layout now persists between sessions.
  • Website: simpler download button, fixed specs-grid symmetry, and nav icons for GitHub, Discord, and YouTube.

Fixes

  • Bypass overhaul: nodes with 2+ inputs can no longer be bypassed (synths are the exception — bypass means silence), and stale bypass state is fixed on Curve, Audio Ribbon, Field Primitive, Range to Range, Smoothing, Mod Depth, Envelope, Arpeggiator, Field Effect, and Image to Points.
  • Fixed clip color tint rendering dimmer than the picked swatch.
  • Fixed top-dock shortcuts and context menus not routing focus correctly.
  • Fixed gesture recording capturing no motion when shift-dragging while the transport is paused.
  • Fixed FM depth's range exceeding what the knob could reach.

v0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@n1m21n n1m21n released this 16 Sep 16:04

What's new in v0.4.0

Features

  • Arrangement Timeline is now a complete editor. Lay out and edit clips on a real timeline synced to your project's tempo: split clips with the blade tool, group and collapse tracks, multi-select and drag groups of clips at once, snap to a grid, add markers, and loop or seek by beat.
  • Live waveforms and video thumbnails on the timeline, updating as you scrub instead of showing a stale cached preview.
  • A render/export queue — pick an exact range to render, queue up multiple exports, and keep working while they run in the background without interrupting playback.
  • Drag and drop media straight onto the timeline to add it.
  • Better time-stretching for samples, fixing pitch artifacts and drift between what you see in the waveform and what actually plays back.
  • Smarter sample BPM handling — BPM is auto-detected and remembered per clip, and clip length stays consistent whether or not "Sync to Tempo" is on.
  • Clip opacity, fades, pitch-sync, and pan; the mix strip (Solo/Mute/Pan/Gain/Opacity) is back on the track header.
  • Infinite is now available on Linux as a real, downloadable app for the first time — see "Linux" below.
  • Shift-drag Q on the EQ curve for finer control.
  • "Install AI Skill" buttons in Settings for Field Language and Expression Globals, to hand to any AI coding assistant.
  • A new Keyboard node for notes.
  • UV wrap mode (clamp/repeat/mirror) on Material.

Fixes

  • Fixed clips retriggering unexpectedly, and text fields losing focus unexpectedly while typing in the arrangement view.
  • Fixed drag-and-drop from Finder landing in the wrong place instead of the timeline.
  • Fixed stuttering while scrubbing the timeline, sample/track playback glitches, and color issues in exported video.
  • Fixed a crash generating certain meshes with Metaballs on Intel Macs.
  • Fixed a crash opening the search panel.
  • Fixed Windows display scaling issues and added a manual UI Scale override for when it still looks off.
  • Fixed the VST3 plugin scanner incorrectly hiding valid plugins on macOS.
  • Fixed a crash when removing a VST3 plugin search folder.
  • Fixed modulated integer sliders sometimes overwriting your recorded automation.
  • Fixed issues with Note Stack's semitone offsets and the Wavetable Shaper's table dropdown.
  • Cleaned up the right-click menu on performance-matrix controls to remove options that didn't apply there.

Linux

Infinite ships on Linux for the first time, as a single downloadable file (Infinite-x86_64.AppImage) — no installer, no extra packages to install first.

It's been tested on Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12, Fedora, and Arch Linux, covering plugin hosting (VST3, with plugin windows), audio and MIDI, video and camera, and background removal.

Please note: this is an early-access build. It's been thoroughly tested in automated environments, but hasn't yet been through a round of real-world use on real hardware — different GPUs, audio interfaces, MIDI controllers, and desktop setups. A native Wayland desktop session hasn't been verified yet either (X11 is). If you run into issues, please report them on GitHub issue #14 — that feedback is exactly what this release needs.
