v0.12.0
Migrating from NetVisor to Scanopy
Why the name change?
We discovered that "NetVisor" conflicts with an existing networking product (Dell's NetVisor ONE), which operates in the same industry. To avoid confusion and potential trademark issues as we grow, we've renamed to Scanopy — a combination of "scan" and "canopy" that reflects what the tool does: scanning and providing coverage of your entire network.
The product, features, and team remain exactly the same. This is purely a naming change.
What you need to update
Docker Compose users
-
Update image names in your
docker-compose.yml:# Old services: server: image: mayanayza/netvisor-server:latest daemon: image: mayanayza/netvisor-daemon:latest # New services: server: image: ghcr.io/scanopy/scanopy/server:latest daemon: image: ghcr.io/scanopy/scanopy/daemon:latest
-
Update environment variables (optional — the old
NETVISOR_*prefix continues to work until v0.13.0):# Old NETVISOR_DATABASE_URL=... NETVISOR_SERVER_PORT=... # New (recommended) SCANOPY_DATABASE_URL=... SCANOPY_SERVER_PORT=...
-
Pull and restart:
docker compose pull docker compose up -d
-
Hard reload browser to clear any cached responses from endpoints that contain old metadata
Standalone daemon users (binary install)
-
Move your configuration directory:
mv ~/.config/netvisor ~/.config/scanopy
-
Rename the binary:
sudo mv /usr/local/bin/netvisor-daemon /usr/local/bin/scanopy-daemon
-
If using systemd, update your service file:
# Stop the old service sudo systemctl stop netvisor-daemon sudo systemctl disable netvisor-daemon # Rename the service file sudo mv /etc/systemd/system/netvisor-daemon.service /etc/systemd/system/scanopy-daemon.service # Edit the file and update the binary path sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/scanopy-daemon.service
Change:
ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/netvisor-daemonTo:
ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/scanopy-daemonThen:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload sudo systemctl enable scanopy-daemon sudo systemctl start scanopy-daemon
GitHub repository
The repository has moved from mayanayza/netvisor to scanopy/scanopy. GitHub automatically redirects old URLs, but update any bookmarks or CI references.
What happens automatically
- Database migrations run on startup and rename internal service definitions
- Existing data is fully preserved — no manual database changes required
- Old environment variables continue to work (we check both prefixes)
Questions?
If you run into any issues during migration, open an issue on the new repository or reach out on Discord.
