Retro Replay

Retro Replay is an instant replay app for Android handhelds running Android 13 or newer. It keeps a rolling gameplay buffer in the background and lets you save the last part of your session as an MP4 clip whenever something worth keeping happens.

How To Use

0. Download the latest release here: https://github.com/nevercholt/RetroReplay/releases
1. Open Retro Replay.
2. Set your preferred Video Quality and Replay Buffer Length.
3. Tap Start Replay Buffer.
4. Approve the Android screen capture permission prompt.
5. While playing, tap Save Replay Clip whenever you want to keep the latest buffered gameplay.
6. Tap Stop Replay Buffer when you are done.

Settings

• Video Quality Choose between 720p and 1080p.

• Replay Buffer Length Choose how much recent gameplay stays ready to save, from 1 to 10 minutes.

• Save Replay Hotkey Set a 2-button or 3-button combo that triggers Save Replay Clip while capture is active.

Save Replay Hotkey Setup

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Set combo.
3. Press the physical button combination you want to use.
4. Tap Open Accessibility Settings.
5. Enable the Retro Replay accessibility service.
6. Start capture. Your configured combo can now trigger Save Replay Clip systemwide, even while another app or game is open.

Important: the buttons used in the configured hotkey are reserved while replay capture is active and will not be passed through to the current game.

Saved Clips

• Clips are saved as .mp4 files.
• The save location is Movies/Retro Replay.
• Filenames use the format Retro_Replay_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.mp4.
• Exported clips are video-only in this release.
• Clip length can be slightly longer or shorter than the selected buffer because export starts from the nearest safe keyframe.

Notes

• Retro Replay is designed for landscape handheld play sessions.
• Android will ask for screen capture permission when starting the replay buffer.
• If screen capture is revoked by the system, the replay session stops and needs to be started again.
• Donations are optional and also available from inside the app.
