Setting the Hostname: note the boot-time window hostnamed sets a synthesised name before it reads the preferences file and corrects itself a few seconds later, so the configured name is not in place for the first moments of boot (getty banner included). Verified on a cold boot. Tracked as nextbsd-userland#66.
Add Setting the Hostname page Documents overriding hostnamed's boot-time name via ComputerName in /Local/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist, with nextbsd as the worked example. Covers the decision chain, reverting, the mDNS/.local knock-on, and why the launchctl bounce is currently required. Links the restart caveat to nextbsd-userland#64 (port scutil), which would make this a single live command. Also adds a hostname(1) entry under System identity in the Command Reference, plus sidebar and Home index entries.
