Stuck browser notifications

Steps to reproduce

1. Configure email
2. Receive an email
3. Get a notification of the new mail from the browser

Expected behavior

Mail notification shows once, and then disappears.

Or it clears when you read the message.

Or have some way to get the notification to stop reappearing every 30 seconds.

Or go away and never notify at all.

Actual behavior

It pops up over and over and over again, and once this starts happening, the only way to get it to stop is to remove the notification permission from NextCloud.

This is a client issue, not a server issue. I actually really like the app, but this notification is super annoying -- and I really want to disable mail notifications entirely, I don't need the interruptions. I'll file a separate feature request for that.

I'm using Firefox on Ubuntu 23.04, if that makes any difference - currently 115.0.2 - snap.

This problem is inconsistent -- it starts happening a while after the mail app is open. It's possible I have mail open in more than one tab... I do have NextCloud open in multiple tabs.

The app doesn't synchronize across tabs. If you open the app in more than one tab there will be duplicate notifications for new messages.

No, I can confirm that using only one tab I still get this issue. Some email notifications just keep appearing even if I already read them.

I can go to that email, mark as unread and read it again and I still get the notification over and over again every 30 seconds or so.

The email server is self hosted as well using docker mailserver, connection using imap and smtp over ssl (no starttls)

I am seeing this issue with the most recent version as well. Mail app only open in one tab.

can confirm for Nextcloud 28.0.1 + Mail 3.5.7 as well as 27.1.6 + Mail 3.5.5 and also for 27.1.6 + 3.5.7.

Same here. It thinks most messages are unread (sometimes it says 1000, others 2000) and repeats the notification.

Also the Mail app UI becomes unresponsive for a couple minutes when this starts (the tab consumes a whole core 100%).

I have narrowed it down to this happening whenever I delete or move messages in bulk. Will test more and update.
