Right now, in the context of software development, Nextcloud as a collaboration platform competes with the usage of existing forges, whether free or proprietary, with its only (major) weakness being its version control system. Implementing a Git backend for Nextcloud's version control system would solve this issue, and if exposed through an external API endpoint, would make Nextcloud usable as a fully fledged forge, thus making it more interesting to the software development community and increasing Nextcloud's visibility among it, which would open the door for more people to contribute.
This would also fix #7473.
