Interesting! I'll try to test that out when I get a chance. In the meantime you might be able to make it do that on your own just by editing the file strings.py in your script folder to replace any instances of archiveofourown.org with archiveofourown.gay. If you try that I'd be interested to hear how it goes! |
Thanks for this! I've been having issues downloading as well, followed your suggestion with the site and edited the strings.py file...now it downloads without any issues! |

FYI to anyone tracking this discussion - the new install instructions have made this workaround much more problematic as I no longer recommend or support running ao3downloader from source. This means that (unless you know what you're doing - it's not by any means impossible, I'm just not going to provide instructions for it) you can't edit source files such as strings.py before running the script. To that end, I'm going to convert this discussion to an issue to officially support setting alternate base urls using the ini file. Please track that issue (#241) if you would like to be notified when the feature is live. That said! according to my Sources (tm) the normal archiveofourown.org url should currently be working a bit better than previous, so hopefully this workaround won't be needed at least for the moment. |
Uh oh!
There was an error while loading. Please reload this page.
Thanks for this great utility! FanFicFare had been having the same issues with Ao3 that ao3downloader has due to Ao3 blocking auto-downloaders, but per the MR thread they've discovered that official Ao3 mirror archiveofourown.gay works. I wondered if it was a possible fix for ao3downloader to use use ao3.gay?
