Running local caude in the claude app?

If you mean the Claude.ai desktop chat app (the one with the chat window): no, that one talks to Anthropic's cloud and there's no way to point it at a local model.

If you mean Claude Code (the coding agent — runs in a terminal, also embedded inside the desktop app): yes, that's exactly what this repo does. It replaces the claude binary with a local MLX backend, so the same Claude Code workflow runs 100% on-device. Quick start is in the README — pick a launcher (Gemma 4 Code.command is the easiest first run), and after that, typing claude in any terminal uses your local model.
