File choosing is very out of scope, niri obviously won’t have a file manager, so I’m guessing you mean delegating it to a file manager but that needs some common api and the file chooser portal is that common api - there’s nothing preventing file managers from making a standalone portal implementation like For screensharing and global hotkeys it makes sense, for example the way virtual cast target is implemented being a virtual display is a bit of a hack and the global shortcuts implementation in the gnome portal will make it impossible to set declaratively within the config IIRC, it’s just a lot of work. |

There are kind of plans. In fact I'm currently experimenting with xdg-desktop-portal-niri. My initial plan is a screencast dialog (with properly exposed dynamic target) and a filechooser that properly falls back from nautilus to something else. But idk when anything will be ready |

@YaLTeR Whats the state of this project? Would be cool because as mentioned this doesn’t help niri’s "lightweightness" as these two packages are objectively bloated (like for example forcing nautilus on these desktop portal user) many people consider this as a big issue that limits the attractiveness of this WM and prevents them from switching. Edit: Is there a way people can contribute to the portal if it’s publicly available at all. |

I am Too Wlling to COntrubute |

@YaLTeR а есть возможность как-то использовать xdg-desktop-portal-cosmic в niri для демонстрации экрана? |
Uh oh!

Hi, i am wondering if there are any plans to develop xdg-desktop-portal for niri? Currently i am using niri with xdg-desktop-portal-gtk and xdg-desktop-portal-gnome. But these 2 packages install so many dependencies to the system. Minimalist system users would be very glad if custom xdg-desktop-portal for niri that supports screensharing, file choosing etc. be developed. Thank you for this great software!
