Orbit v0.9.6
What's new
- Arcade icons: the ARCADE shelf now shows each game's own icon, taken straight from its package, on a square orange tile with a thin orange rim. A scan copies the icons into
Covers\Icons\(named by title ID) the first time it finds each game, so later scans stay fast. The folder is safe to delete; the next SCAN NOW saves the icons again. Arcade games without an icon get a square cover drawn for them.
Changes
- Arcade tiles are square instead of portrait, the shape of the icons. The XBOX, XBOX 360 and APPS shelves look the same as before.
- The ARCADE shelf no longer uses the
Coversfolder; box art there is still used for original Xbox games, Xbox 360 games and apps. - Orbit no longer looks for covers in
Usb0:\Orbit\Covers\, where versions before 0.9.1 kept them. With a USB hard drive attached, a game or app without a cover made Orbit wake the drive while starting, which could hold the screen black for about 14 seconds. If you still have covers there, move them into theCoversfolder next toOrbit.xex.
Upgrading from v0.9.5
Replace Orbit.xex in your Orbit folder (Apps\Orbit, or PeerPressure\Dashboard with Peer Pressure). The Media folder hasn't changed. Your paths, library, covers, menu choices and theme are kept. Run SCAN NOW once so the ARCADE shelf picks up its icons.
New install
Unzip and copy the Orbit folder into Apps on your drive, then follow the README's Install section. For Peer Pressure, follow "Install with Peer Pressure" instead.
Tested on
Xbox 360 S (Trinity) with BadUpdate + Dashlaunch, and with Peer Pressure.
Limitations
- Game discs aren't supported yet.
- Extracted (non-GOD) 360 games haven't been tested.
Orbit v0.9.5
What's new
- Rename and new folder in FILES: press LB to rename the selected file or folder and LT to make a new folder, typing the name on the on-screen keyboard. If nobody is signed in, Orbit opens the sign-in screen first (the keyboard needs a profile), then the keyboard.
- Profile badge: the signed-in profile's gamer picture and gamertag show at the top of the screen. It's hidden when nobody is signed in.
- Faster start with lots of box art: the first time Orbit loads a cover it saves a ready-to-draw copy in
Covers\Cache\, so later starts skip decoding every JPG. The first start after updating is as slow as before while the cache fills. Replacing a cover is picked up automatically, and theCachefolder is safe to delete.
Changes
- Original Xbox games on the XBOX shelf are now named after their folder instead of the title inside the game, so you can pick the name: rename the folder (LB in FILES), then run SCAN NOW. Two games are only merged into one entry when both the name and the title ID match.
- The button hints along the bottom include RENAME (LB) and NEW FOLDER (LT) in FILES.
Upgrading from v0.9.4
Replace Orbit.xex and the Media folder in your Orbit folder (Apps\Orbit, or PeerPressure\Dashboard with Peer Pressure). Media has new pictures for the LB/LT buttons and the profile badge. Your paths, library, covers, menu choices and theme are kept. Run SCAN NOW once so the XBOX shelf picks up the folder names.
Orbit v0.9.4
What's new
- Faster copying of big folders: pasting a folder with thousands of files no longer hangs on "MEASURING..." in FILES. Orbit now reads file sizes from the folder listing instead of opening every file, which was very slow on FAT32 USB drives (for example a game's media folder with ~3,000 files). Pressing cancel while measuring also stops straight away.
- Peer Pressure support: Orbit can be installed as the Peer Pressure dashboard through the softmod installer's extras, with its box art in
Coversinstalled alongside it. See the README's new "Install with Peer Pressure" section for installing and updating (with XexMenu).
Changes
- FILES and the library's delete now protect the
PeerPressurefolder on the internal drive, so Orbit can't delete itself or the softmod's files. Update Orbit there with XexMenu instead.
Upgrading from v0.9.3
Replace Orbit.xex in your Orbit folder (Apps\Orbit, or PeerPressure\Dashboard with Peer Pressure). Your paths, library, covers, menu choices and theme are kept. (Media hasn't changed, so copying it is optional.)

Orbit v0.9.3
What's new
- Colour themes: SETTINGS → THEME lets you pick PURPLE (the default), BLUE, GREEN, ORANGE or RED with left / right. The screen changes straight away. The theme colours the background, orb, menu, windows and text; box art and the case colours stay as they are. Your choice is saved in
theme.txtnext toOrbit.xex.
Changes
- Removed the hidden developer tool on the Back button (colour tuning bars and debug views). Back now does nothing on the main menu. The picture looks the same as before.

Orbit v0.9.2
What's new
- Hide menu items: SETTINGS → MENU lets you switch XBOX, XBOX 360, ARCADE, APPS and FILES on or off. Hidden items leave the ring and the rest spread out to fill the gap. SETTINGS can't be hidden, and at least one other item stays on. Your choice is saved in
menu.txtnext toOrbit.xex. - Colour fix: the menu panels behind the orb no longer pick up a blue tint from the orb's glow.

Orbit v0.9.1
What's new in v0.9.1
Box art works from any drive
- Covers now load from a
Coversfolder inside Orbit's own folder, for exampleUsb0:\Apps\Orbit\CoversorHdd1:\Apps\Orbit\Covers. - Orbit can now show box art when it runs from the internal hard drive. Before, covers only loaded from a USB drive.
- Orbit creates the
Coversfolder the first time it starts, so you no longer have to make it yourself. - The old location,
Usb0:\Orbit\Covers, still works as a fallback, so existing setups keep their covers.
Documentation
- New setup guide for content paths, with example layouts for the internal drive and for USB drives.
- New "Try it out" section for Aurora users and a "Before you start" section for new users, with softmod options and video tutorials.
- Clearer notes on what Orbit doesn't do yet.
Upgrading from v0.9.0
- Replace
Orbit.xexin your Orbit folder with the new one. - Move your covers from
Usb0:\Orbit\CoversintoApps\Orbit\Covers. (Optional: the old folder still works.)
Your content paths and library are kept.

Unzip and copy the Orbit folder to Apps on your drive (for example Usb0:\Apps\Orbit), then launch Orbit.xex. See the README for setting Orbit as your default dashboard and adding your content paths.

Orbit v0.9.0
First public release of Orbit, a homebrew launcher for modded Xbox 360 consoles.
Install: unzip and copy the Orbit folder to Apps on your drive (for example Usb0:\Apps\Orbit), then launch Orbit.xex. See the README for setting it as your default dashboard and adding your content paths.
Box art (optional): create a folder called Orbit\Covers in the root of your USB drive (Usb0:\Orbit\Covers) and put covers in it named by title ID, for example 4D5307E6.jpg. Full 900×600 box scans from xboxunity.net work best. Games without a cover get one drawn for them.
