Configuring OuterTune

When you open OuterTune for the first time you will have a configuration screen, which will, among other things let you import previously saved backups, link your account to your Youtube Music account, and configure locations for to scan for local music. As I'm not a local music guy, I'm only familiar with the Youtube Music side of the player.

The first page of the configurator lists out the main features of OuterTune, as well as a frequently-overlooked option to import a backup. You will have to scroll down to see this option.

The next page is the Interface page where you can change some settings for appearance and interface. Keep in mind that this fork did not change or alter this page in any way, so many of the options in the appearance and settings were not listed.

The next page is the account page, where you can connect your Youtube Music (YTM) account. This lets you sync your liked music playlist, recommendations and other data such as songs listened and searches. Unless you are very focused on privacy, this is highly recommended, as you will constantly have a server-side backup of your important data. You will be directed to the normal Google sign-in page when you click login. Once you see your YTM home screen, you can press the back button to return to the configurator. Once logged in, I also highly recommend that you leave the Automatic Sync on.

The next page, which I do not really use, is the Local Media page. I will take most of my information from the original OuterTune wiki as I have little knowledge on this part of the player. Basically, this page comprises the options for the inbuilt local media scanner, so you can detect any local music and play it. The entry in the official OuterTune wiki, which is comprehensive and really long, can be found in the Local Media Information tab of the wiki.

The next page is the Song Downloads page. This page lets you set an external folder to save your song downloads to, as well as the size of the song cache. This allows you to change the amount of space the app can use to cache (i.e. store) songs. This can be very useful if you have a playback problems or want to reduce the amount of internet used.
