Configuring Settings

OuterTune has an extensive range of customisable settings, which let you tune all aspects of the app's functionality. These settings are grouped into categories, and the names of these categories are listed on the settings page.

The settings page has the following categories:

Account and sync: Allows you to sign in to your Youtube Music (YTM) account, as well as configure settings for syncing data from your YTM account Discord Integration: Allows you to sign in to your Discord account and enable/disable your rich presence Appearance and controls: Allows you to edit any settings which pertain to the appearance or layout of the app Player and audio: Allows you to tweak settings related to the player's audio settings and playback settings Library and content: Displays settings related to the app's song library History: Shows you your listening history Local media: Shows your settings related to local songs and the inbuilt local media player and scanner Lyrics: Displays lyrics provider settings and allows you to re-order your lyrics providers Privacy: Allows you to turn history saving and similar settings Storage: Configure settings related to stored songs and downloads Backup and restore: Lets you backup your current data or restore it Experimental: Gives you access to experimental and/or developer settings About: Displays app information

These settings allow you to configure the app to your liking. It is recommended that you read this guide in order to gain a better understanding of the app's customisation capabilities so you can tweak settings better. Some settings are more important than others, and I will talk about the more commonly used settings first.

Appearance and controls Under the "Theme" tab, you will see settings related to the colour and theming which will be applied throughout the app. This app is built on a Material 3 (Material You) colour scheme, allowing the app to dynamically change accent colours of certain UI elements. The settings and their meanings are as follows:

Enable dynamic theme: Toggle the dynamic theme on or off. This theme takes the primary colours from the current song cover art which you are listening to, and applies this colour to select UI elements. Custom accent colour: (Explained in settings) Use a specified colour instead of a dynamic palette. Enabling this setting will disable dynamic theming. Dark theme: Enables or disables the dark theme. If set to off, it switches to the light theme instead, which makes most UI elements white or a lighter colour. The "follow system" setting makes it follow the state of your operating system. Pure black: Changes the colours of parts of the app from a dark grey to a pure black. This setting is best used on OLED (i.e. AMOLED or similar) displays for best effect. This setting does technically also save power, as does dark mode. Arrange tabs: Reorder the bottom row tabs. You can both reorder their sequence and toggle them on or off. Clicking on the tab will show or hide it, while dragging them by the two-line handle lets you reorder them. The app requires a restart for the app to apply the changes. You will need to fully close the app, typically by opening the recents page (the square-shaped icon at the bottom of your screen, or swiping up from your home screen if you use gestures) and then closing the app there. If you are currently playing a song the song should stop playing.

High-resolution artwork: Enables fetching of higher-resolution thumbnails. This setting is strongly recommended to be left on.

Player background style: Allows you to change the background of the player to a specific style.
