To join a channel with the +k password mode set, you would usually type /join #channelname password. If you attempt to join a passworded channel from the channel list, it hangs on "loading messages" indefinitely. Since there is no lobby to send commands in, you have to join an open channel to be able to send the join command, which then results in the same behaviour.
