Status message cannot be cleared using empty string

After setting a status message (answer to the "What's on your mind?" question in the profile settings) it's not possible to clear it using an empty string. If you do that, the status message reverts to the previously set message after clicking on the "Save Changes" button.

Workaround: set it to a single space; that does seem to clear the message.
