[RTMP] Adding Kick as Stream Service #10043
Conversation
Adding Kick.com as it is meanwhile a good streaming plattform.
@JustZerooo to confirm, are you a Kick representative? |
Thank you for the submission, but Kick does not currently meet our requirements to be accepted. |
But other unknown services are supported? Okay! |
Kick does not meet our requirements because the platform supports and encourages detestable and vile content and creators, and we as a project do not want ourselves associated with it. |
Thankfully you are not blocking Kick from being used. It should be up the users choice to use or not use the platform. You are not endorsing them for putting it on the list of preset streaming platforms but rather you are making it easier for users to select it and apply. Many are moving to Kick. That's a poor reason to not add it. Are you endorsing all the sexual websites included in your list? Or the few internacional ones which have content more vile than the ones that you claim happens on Kick? I am not against those cam sites but this is a dumb moral crusade. You will most likely delete this response but, alas. |
The exact same statement could be said about other platforms that are supported. It is not the responsibility of the streaming application to make these types of decisions on behalf of the user. The "association" referenced does not exist. OBS isn't responsible for anything the user does on any platform - the user is. This is clearly stated in Section 11 of the GPL-2.0 license that OBS uses.
Are you sure this doesn't have anything to do with OBS being sponsored by YouTube and Twitch? |
Have you checked out Twitch's Just Chatting section by chance? |
Thank you for taking a stance against the vile content hosted by Kick.
There's nothing wrong with it. Twitch promotes sexual content/channels to children and this project is perfectly okay with that because it reinforces to young boys that women are worth nothing more than what they charge for their OF subscription and to young girls that they can make money really easily by using this lovely free software. If that was actually considered detestable or vile then the project would obviously remove Twitch from the services.json file. This project empowers women to take their shirts off and stream on Twitch with only a few clicks! |
I wouldn't want to associate myself with a site that allows full blown piracy either. |
pretty sure there is a difference between sexual content and hateful content connected with gambling (which coincidentally, kick is funded by stake.com, big shock) |
Twitch is a cam girl site at this point and has the same content as kick now .. talk about choosing favourites |
You're saying that a service which promotes video game streaming is against OBS's morals, but a service which promotes softcore pornography is what you want OBS to be associated with? |
so you want to associate yourself with the camgirl sites currently present in services.json? you know... lots of human trafficking and exploitation going on in there, ask andrew tate. |
I went to kick.com and it looks like a run of the mill gaming streaming site. |
Lock it. Lock it now. This is the friendliest message I'm going to send, while I look for ways to get OP banned from Github for gross social misconduct. I imagine that "kick viewer" might be enough to get that account tagged as a nazi, who knows how many communities across however many repositories that person just bothered across all of Github. |
can we get ebussy over here to solve this? |
just to be clear, the above is more explicitly stated the service submission guidelines:
Kick fails on the point of "promotion of … harmful behaviour (e.g. harassment, hate speech)" |

since we're citing written documents, I'd be useful if you read Kick's TOS which under paragraph 1.4 states that it's not allowed to stream: "nudity or other sexually suggestive content, hate speech, threats or direct attacks on an individual or group, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable content". |
yeah, what a service states in its legal terms and what it actually does in practice are not necessarily the same thing |
I can't really find any examples of it promoting any hate speech or harassment |
lmao, you can't make this stuff up, simping for his old boss, geez |
I seriously don't get it. What's this guy's problem with that site? |
I'm so tired of the whole "HATE speech" bs. I am sorry but hate speech is free speech. Calls for violence on the other hand I understand and is another matter - that is the only time I would agree with censorship. This is very disturbing to read and honestly OBS should be ashamed of themselves - speaking as someone who really doesn't use Kick all that often but is very pro free speech & anti censorship. Extremely disappointed to hear this news. I hope this gets re-thought. |
Ah, so you're fine with censorship as long as you get to draw the line. |
I think you miss understood my position. Please re-read. Or elaborate your point. I am very much against people deciding what goes or doesn't unless it is very clearly calls for violence. I am on Kicks side on this. |
So in other words, exactly as I said. |
I'm leaving these comments here, including the personal attacks by those choosing to defend the platform, as an example of why we're not adding or associating ourselves with Kick. As a reminder to everyone, interactions in our community are subject to our Code of Conduct. Any further attempts to use our platform to sling mud at each other will result in further action taken, up to and including a ban from our communities. |
All of these platforms have existed longer than OBS, have extremely massive user adoption, and were included in the services list long before any sponsorship. Implicit accusations of us selling them their place within the services list is incredibly disrespectful and deliberately obtuse.
Twitch can and should do better in enforcing their guidelines. It's irrelevant to this conversation. Kick's content moderation is far more relaxed and generally we've observed enforcement in only the most egregious circumstances whilst also operating at a significantly smaller scale.
There is nothing wrong with sexual content on a sexual content website.
Freedom of speech (in the context of the US Constitution, as it is most often brought up) only means the free and public expression of opinions without censorship, interference and restraint by the government. People are free to say hateful things in our communities and we are free to remove them for doing so. They will not be thrown in jail, they will simply be shown the door. We are also not preventing people from streaming to Kick. A service does not need to be in this list for people to be able to stream to it.
OBS is more than just the literal code of the application. Fenrir has been a contributor for nearly a decade in a vast range of capacities, including but not limited to managing our community, the OBS organization itself, the various repositories, and leading our volunteer support efforts. He is one of multiple community members tasked with leading the project as a whole. Anyone who is a regular participant in our community would be well aware of that. There are polite ways to ask why someone is qualified to speak on behalf of the project. This was one not of them. Kick has garnered a reputation for harboring rude, inciteful people and the comments here from proponents of the platform are an excellent example of exactly the behaviour we take issue with and are certainly not doing much to improve that perception. If someone suggests you are rude and disrespectful, it's generally not advisable to dispute it by being rude and disrespectful. While Kick HAS improved their moderation and efforts to combat this behaviour and I commend them for that work, it is still not to a level we currently find sufficient. If more improvements are made in that regard we will be happy to revisit at a later date, hopefully with more respectful discussion. I will also remind everyone of our Service Submission Guidelines which are specifically guidelines and include mention that we may deny a service for any reason. I also don't believe that JustZerooo ever confirmed if they are an actual representative of Kick, which if not, would mean we'd close this PR on principle anyway regardless of any of the discussion above. We only accept service addition requests from official representatives of a platform. All of that being said, it is worth noting that a future goal of the project to improve the way services work which would include a method by which they could be easily added rather than us managing a list. Until such a time, we have not and continue to not actively block any platform as a streaming destination. The services listing is only a workflow improvement and everyone is still free to stream wherever they like. |
