Docker MCP toolkit connected with Odysseus (running in docker)

Hi everyone,
I would like to ask if anyone tried already to connect Docker MCP toolkit with Odysseus.
I saw that different clients like Claude, VS Code , Codex, etc.. implements it directly in their interface.

Has anyone tried already to do it?
If so, would anyone have a suggestion on the steps to set it up?

I have not tested this exact Docker MCP Toolkit setup yet, but I think there are two separate questions here:

1. Can Odysseus connect to the MCP server?
2. What permissions does that MCP server need in order to manage Docker?

The first part should ideally be just a normal MCP configuration problem: run the MCP server somewhere Odysseus can reach it, then add it to Odysseus as an MCP server.

The second part is the one I would be more careful with. If the Docker MCP server needs access to /var/run/docker.sock, that is effectively giving it broad control over the host Docker daemon in a normal rootful Docker setup. That may be acceptable for a trusted local admin workflow, but it should be treated as an explicit opt-in, not as a casual default.

So I would suggest approaching it like this:

• first test a minimal MCP connection with a harmless server/tool;
• then run the Docker MCP server outside the Odysseus container if possible;
• only expose Docker control deliberately, with clear understanding of the security implications;
• avoid mounting the Docker socket into Odysseus unless that is truly required;
• if file paths are involved, make sure Odysseus and the MCP server agree on shared volume paths, otherwise tools may receive paths that only exist in one container/namespace.

This also overlaps with #4717. The Docker socket can be useful for local power-user workflows, but it should probably be documented as a high-trust configuration. For most users, connecting Odysseus to existing model/service endpoints is safer than giving the app container direct Docker-daemon access.

Unfortunately my developer status is ENTRY LEVEL so apologies if I do not completely follow you.

My current set up is:

I am running Odysseus in Docker (in widows with WSL2-ubuntu).

I linked Odysseus to Ollama to use the local models using the nvidia GPU (after the installation of the NVIDIA toolkit in docker).

Instead of installing MCP servers via npm I was wondering if there was a way to link the MCP toolkit directly with Odysseus modifying some of the files in the repo.

I could get a subscription with Claude or similar to analyze the repo and get some suggestions but this way I would have to use money hungry companies. It would be the opposite of the Odysseus' purpose.

That's why I'm reaching for help from the community.
