Omabuntu v1.3.0 is in the works, aiming to align itself even more closely with Omarchy by introducing Walker as launcher (replacing Wofi) and Ghostty installation processes to the available terminals, in addition to the existing Kitty ofc. It won't be the same as having a WM tiling, but GNOME is certainly much nicer and more modern this way.
Many packages are distributed through a repository built specifically for Omabuntu, which allows for better management of their installation. 💪🏻 There's also a version for Debian (13+) that applies the same criteria and themes; you can find it here: |

Ciao 👋🏻 ,
I wanted to share a small update for those who are still using and following Omakub.
Over the years, Omakub has been an important project for many of us, and a big thank you goes to @dhh for creating it and carrying it forward.
Since it is now in maintenance mode, I’ve been working on a continuation called Omabuntu, with the goal of keeping the same spirit alive while making sure it continues to work well as Ubuntu and its ecosystem evolve.
The idea is not to change Omakub’s direction, but to keep it usable, predictable, and compatible, while also following the direction taken by Omarchy and adapting similar ideas to Ubuntu when they make sense.
Omabuntu 1.0.0 is now released and is ready for fresh installs.
A migration path from Omakub is currently available here.
If you are interested in trying Omabuntu from a clean setup, or in following how the project continues, you are very welcome to check it out and share feedback.
It is meant as a respectful continuation of the work that started with Omakub, with a strong focus on compatibility, stability and long term maintainability.
Thanks to everyone who has used, tested and contributed to Omakub over the years.
